Well..as i sit here...late at night ive in one day heard alot of tragedies and deaths...in our beloved powwow world...i have to sit and remember all those that have gone...and all those that have lost something precious....i dont claim to know much nor claim to be beyond anyone....but my relatives...PLEASE......take care of yourselves.....maybe the times are here that we have to remember why we dance...and what it really means...a time that we should step back and go get traditional prayers done for you...a prayer not to win..or be the best...but prayers for safety and gratitude.....for protection....we often forget that....being the best is being able to take care of ourselves.....look at how we have become....we critisize the white people for their greed and ignorance....but are we any better?.....i dont know who will read this..but for those who do...at least tell your friends or loved ones..we have lost too much and too many so far...my prayers go out to my brother spike draper and family...to my friends over in yellow hammer country....to the hensley family in wisconsin....to the jack family....to all of the families that still grieve...so my friends....take care hope to see you for a long time....to show i am not playing here is my name ....micco lowe......so god bless

Beautiful words. I feel the sincerity in your words. Unfortunetly, tradgedy is created for all people, so that we can remember to appreciate what matters most. Love, family and respect will make us all stronger.Last edited by kiyaanii mom; 05-05-2006, 12:43 PM.

As we look at our own lives, our families and our loved ones, we can easily forget the word "gratitude" within our two worlds. We live in a culture that is fast paced in the Western Society. Our children at times forget who they really are and get lost in the shuffle.
My brothers and sisters, please take this time to thank our Creator for our beautiful children. We are a very gifted people: arts, dance, songs, etc. We have an extra "cushion" to bounce on if we should fall, it is called our "ceremonies". Listen to your child(ren) at all times. They are our most precious resource. I am a teacher and at times witness sadness with some of our children.. it breaks my heart to see this.
With all the tragedies that are happening now with our powwow family.... "step back and take it easy". Do not rush too fast in thinking and reacting. Pray for your family and other families in need and thank the Creator for what you now have and cherish.
I have learned these teachings from my elders.. i know no more than my next brothers and sisters.
If need be, take time out... and enjoy your home, your family, your animals and yourself.
wanda brownHappy Trails!....

Great words from some wise women who know what they are talking about. It takes a lot to stand up for what you believe in and it takes a lot more to say it. Prayer has always got me through the roughest times in my life. I lost 4 people in my family last year. Two uncles, one aunt and my nephew Calum. I miss them very much. That is how precious life is. You can be the best and be on top....but it can topple down in second. Pray for you life, your family, friends, the road for a safe trip and those blessings can get you through. What happened to the Draper family could be anyone of us. I've seen devastations like that before in San Diego, thousands of families lost their homes to fires. Take care friends, regard your life like it's your last, because tragedy doesn't discriminate.Fall down 7 times, get up 8. MY FAMOUS WORDS.

by CelenaI'll start out by saying the usual things were good about this powwow: the drums and the dancers. It's them that ultimately make or break a powwow, for the most part. There were some really great specials and the dancers really put up a good competition. The weather was mild, and it was not unbearably...
