Have I been discriminated against? Once or twice. Have I been accepted by Indians most everywhere? Well, does California, Texas and Oklahoma count?

Am I embarrassed by folks like Eaglefeather? Yes. I try to educate but often times am ignored.

Do I get annoyed when Indians with less blood and blue eyes try to card me? uh, yes.

Do I get annoyed when fullbloods card me? sometimes, but doesn't happen too often.

Do I notice that redblack mixedbloods get singled out more than other mixedbloods? Sure, you know, all folks claiming Apache aren't really Apache......... (algunos cruzaron la fronterra y dice que son Indios.....)

hey Mato,

i hear you bro, i have friends that try to teach their kids not to see color, i am of the opposite frame of mind. i teach my children to see color, to honor it, to ask questions about other races, to ask people about the culture that is that person is from. lack of knowledge is how we develop our prejudices, and we all have them, and there is a difference between ignorance and stupidity.
Ignorance stems from a lack of knowledge stupidity stems from a lack of care, a refusal to learn.

I'm sure some would be offended anytime a race question is brought up.

The question I'm asking is....... will there ever be a time when people won't hate other people? Is it going to be a fact that has been there from the beginning until the end?

In my years I've seen things swing and sway from one extreme to the other. Whites hating blacks........we had the klan. Blacks hating whites...... Black Panthers. Indian hating who ever was not Indian because they had no right to be on this land.

On the flip side I've seen tree huggin "the world is a rainbow tribe" to people who saw everyone as having no color but were otherwise thought of being transparent. And in the process humanity loses all the variety spice and flavor. Life just becomes a bland oatmeal instead of the flavorful pot of wonderful stew.

All of these are extremes. And I wonder where is the common ground? Where is that place where people can co exist and not hate?

Color is color, who cares if they are black or mixed. Shoot, I get black every summer.......ayeeee... well more like black tea.......haha.

Prejudice is learned. But everyone holds their own opinions, mine personally, is more dedicated to natives, but that is my own personal choice. My son is mixed, mexican and navajo, he even has dual citizenships. But, no one really bothers him, he is just special to have the knowledge of 2 different cultures. Personally, I want him to be with a native girl but who knows, that will be his choice in the future. I guess to each their own, we just have to except that.

I think the relevance of this thread is too clear now. We have moved on to the life of roses! With that in mind, seeing that I DO NOT have a green thumb, I am proud to say that my pink rose bush (Hey, I didn't plant them pink, they came with the house) and my orchid in the living room are STILL alive! No rose colored glasses here! on the subject tho'- you are who you are...be proud of it. You know the ole' saying 'can't help who your family is...' I have full bloods saying that about being ndn...so point is - my favorite are yellow roses with a little dye around the tips... please send me some!!!
