The majority of traditional powwows held adjacent to Wild Horse Casino and Resort on the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian reservation are in July. Yeah, its hot (temperature wise)! But the Arena Director, Whip Man and Whip Woman work in concert with each other to insure that all dancers stay hydrated. In years past, I've never witnessed any dancers fainting or passing out due to 100+ degree afternoons. Can't say the same for the spectators in the bleachers.

Anyone have any info (directions, MC, drums, etc.) on this? I saw a vendor's application for this on Saturday. I heard they're also having Yaqui deer dancers. Sounds interesting. I heard that's some pretty wild stuff.

        Hip hop at Pow wows?
        by Cinkala
Unfortuntely I can't bring up the video because my computer is messing up right now. But, there are a couple of videos on youtube that are called "ghetto pow wow". It pretty much is a bunch of dancers dancing to hip hop music in the circle.

What are everybodys thoughts on this?...

I'm fairly new to the pow wow circuit attending only pow wows in the South. I've read and seen a few pictures of switch dancing from other pow wows but have not been to any that feature this dance. I'm just curious to know if there are any ladies out there that do this and how they enjoy it? Also in...

Pow Wow Sadness in Phoenix, AZ.

Am posting this because I'm most disturbed about these happenings at a lovely social pow wow that was in the PHX Metropolitan area on April 28, 2007.

Harlan Barehand organized a very nice event for his Family's reunion, at the St. John's school at Gila Crossing. It included gourd dancing,...

        Boozhoo niji,

I have had something happen in the last couple of days that is really interesting, and I just wanted to get some input on it. It is certainly important in my life, but its not a Native issue, because of my mixed heritage.

The other day I get a phone call...
