That would be wonderful to have blacklodge but they cost about 6,000 we don't have that kind of money. I tried to contact Whitefish Bay and they haven't replied back but we have to think within our budget once we get one. We will be getting money from fundraising, cap funding (student services) etc..not from the school (university)itself.
If our powwows become really sucessful maybe one of these days we'll get blacklodge but for right now we have to settle with the not so well known drums. I'm thinking maybe we should have open drum with in mind that the ones not invited will not be getting payed they will be depending on contest money and blanket money. I'm trying to strike really good deals with hotels right now. Clarion costs $55.00 for student/faculty which is right by from the university now if they would lower it maybe 10 more dollars for our powwow that might be well worth it but I'm checking into others as well.

also another suggestion: the bigger/more well known drums will bring you more dancers and the best dancers. This year at the Cleveland pow wow, the host drum was black lodge and there were a lot of people from out of state, this pow wow was the biggest it has been. Plus, a lot of people don't like to hear hobbyist-type drums that don't know what they are doing..dancers love to dance to some good drums!!!

If it's any consolation, that same drum - from Nebraska - has also done that to other powwows. Word has gotten around.

Yes, a contract is a good thing for both parties.
Do you know which drum it is that did this that way I know not to ask them to perform at our powwow?

And for those of you asking where the pow wow is... it'll be on the campus of the University of Toledo (OH).

    Hope that clears it up!

Not that I know of...... but if you do a search on google for Indian Center..... American Indian Center..... you could prob get quite a few and may get some links off some of those sites.

Yup......... Anymore......... I'd have everyone do one. Have it spelled out......... like vendors agreeing to be there from this time to that time........ singers......... how many sessions....... what type of songs they need to be prepared to do ( grand entries.... vet..... specials...... etc etc. ) and what time they need to be there and until what time, what you will provide for them and payout.

I know some that do that for their head staff also.... like duh....... we're payin ya to dance.

YES, get everything spelled out in writing some where. That way when someone questions something, the Emcee or committee can point them to your paper work that spells out your powwow rules and protocal.
