  • Clarification of whites and those ndn's

This post is adjacent to Ohio Powwows post.
In there it mentioned something about white and ndn's that looked white.

So this is the end of all confussion here it goes:

white people=People who are raised white, no concept of community and have no ndn blood.

The ndn blood isnt something that can be taken away its there forever reguardless.

Ndn's who are mixed blood= just as is...they are mixed and that's okay as long as you know who you are and where you came from and participate in your community and carry yourself well its all good so no fretting.

twinkies (hey is there another analogy?*lol*)
they are white ppl with no ndn blood just posing as ndn with no sense of guilt of what they are doing because they dont care. Just plain wannabes nothing else more.

Apples=those who look ndn and have ndn blood but do diddly squat , they rather live a white mans life.

theres a clear conception of the differences, now if anyone wants to add more to that go ahead. The more clearer it is the better.
This is totally off the wall but goes with blacks/african americans who have either native blood, who have non or those who would rather be white like my roomie. She won't even admit shes black. She hangs out with nothing but white folk its pretty sad.
Ho Ho's: I just hear this one but they are blacks who live white lifestyle and who cant even admit they are black. They are black on the outside and white on the inside.

I've never heard of twinkie before. I laughed out loud over that one.

          I'd add

non-Indians who are mixed blood - people with Indian ancestry mixed with other ancestry, not raised or following an Indian path, but interested in learning about their Indian heritage

but having said that, I get a little uneasy with all this classifying. It's so easy, when you have categories, to meet someone (online or in person), put them in a slot in your own mind, and resist moving them out of that slot even when it becomes clear they aren't what you thought.

An awfully broad generalization, Señor. What does a sense of community have to do with identifying race? Don't be misled merely because somebody else's community does not include you.

What am I then? Classify me.

I'm just an old-time Injun that some of you wouldn't even come and talk to. Especially after dancing and sweating on a hot afternoon.
Short (not stereotypically long) scraggly hair. Dark.

              What am I?

Community is everything to us ndn's, it's where we hang our hat, it's where we learn community dances, it's where we learn about who we are as ndn's...it's our connection. I'm not Senor *lol* I'm a senorita*lmoa*

I take a little offence at the sentiment as well. Admittedly, I have no sense of community, I'm just too darned busy. BUT, I know plenty of fellow caucasians who are very community-oriented and in touch with their heritage. I too am in touch with my heritage, being French Canadian whose great grandparents immigrated from France but their grandparents were originally German.

Also, it's kind of unfair to lump people up like that. Whatever happened to just doing what you love, regardless of what color your skin is and what color you are or wish you were on the inside?

Whites are not devoid of a sense of community, but in general, I think it is more important to Indians than whites, at least those whites in urban and suburban areas. Having said that, I also have to say that I live in a rural area that is all white, and the sense of community is very strong. We take care of each other in times of need - I know I can call on several different families for help if I need it, and they can call on me, and we get together all the time. So I wouldn't say whites have "no" sense of community - maybe just a "lesser" sense.

Um this wasn't in reference to anyone in particular.
This is in reference to the definition of what is a twinkie and so on because its mentioned on here alot and not everyone knows what it is. Heck I didn't even know what a twinkie was meaning what it meant until I became more familiar on here. My family never used those terms growing up. And no I'm not classifying anyone on here just giving definitions of what each term is thats all.

the area I grew up around had no sense of community ...in Toledo many people are mean and could care less abotu each other. Maybe it's not all communities like that.

Every place, every group of people is different. There are families who are like the Waltons and families who barely speak to each other. I've lived places where I've been close to all my neighbors and places where I didn't even know my neighbors' names. You can generalize by saying Indians have a greater sense of community than whites, but that only goes so far. Indian communities have their disruptions too (see the Ohio powwows thread).

                            OK, what's my title?
White as rice, no ndn blood. I come to pow wows with respect, and in hopes of learning how to better walk the good road. I hope to be a friend to ndn's, not to become one. (Just can't handle too much frybread).

                            What's your verdict?
                            Something exists.
