I don't know if any of you remember last years powwow, when the old style grass dance was held and the lady that takes care of the powwow tabulations was taking care of the tabulations for that special contest, she came up with a number of a dancer that didn't even dance in the special and he won, yet his number was called over and over until he himself went up and told them he didn't even dance in the special, this brought the question of how fair the denver powwow is concerning the tabulation part of the powwow, because that is very important, because that only showed she had her fav dancer, oh and the dancer that won was randy paskiman, and he didn't even dance in the special, yet his number was called for first place mmmm!!, and they say they want to keep the prize money low, despite gas price being very high again, and then slapping every body in the face with their expensive jackets that each member of the denver powwow gets every year and shows them off on sunday as to say look what your money is buying us, come on Ken put your lakota values to work for the Oyate that bring you people with their addmission price per person., seems denver march powwow needs to change with the times.

I didn't go to Denver March last year but I went to Morongo in September and the NEW tabulators for Morongo just happened to be the DENVER MARCH pow wow tabulators!!!!!!!!!
Since I used to tabulate Morongo and think that the system we used was really good, YES I have to say I wasn't impressed with the NEW morongo tabulators. It took about 3 hours before winners were called and alot of dancers complained about the $50 protest fee to see their points.
Since all our tabulating was fair and open, we always let people see their points after the powwows we tabulate..absolutely free of charge!!
This is not the first time someone has said something negative about Denver's tabulators...

okayyy
Hmm, I don't know about the committee, but I remember Morongo was crazzy this year waiting for the winners list...2 1/2 hours is a little ridiculous. I don't know what happn'd thurr, but I remember 2005 was da bomb and don't remember waiting very long for winners. It was all wrapped up pretty fast.
As for Denver, yeah, we know it costs skads, but that's the price we have to pay sometimes and yeah, it's a bummer. I've debated whether I wanna go or not cause of the cost, but then again, I wanna dance and intertribal around and visit with my outta state family to.
I can understand a "smaller" admission price, no parking fee and no recording fee. That would be better. I don't get the recording fee, it's not like we're duplicating the pow wow and selling it, but "oh snap", maybe we should so we could get some of our admission and parking money back....gahhh!
oh well, just try to enjoy it while it lasts...Don't forget why you dance.......to make otherz feel goot!----from the North...

I was there. I saw all this happen. The special was such an obvious case of corruption. But, do you know what's worse? No one in the powwow community or Indian community stood up and said anything about it. (probably becuz of the "big" name it involved). That just shows you what kind of morals Indian people have nowadays.

by Lakota WiyanRecently, my family and I attended a powwow here in Rapid City, and just about went BROKE! Even the admission alone put us back over $100.00 for the weekend. Even my four year old, who slept most of the evening sessions, had to pay $9.75 for the weekend.
The concession stand in the...-

by IvanasnaguI attended the Pechanga powwow in Cali over the weekend. If you attended, what did you think about the contest results? I was really disappointed in the adult divisions results. I think there was a problem in tabulations since several won that probably shouldn't have. Some people were shut out that...

by WhoMeThere are many reasons to go to powwows. The family activity aspect, the intertribal aspect, the dancing to a common drumbeat aspect, the comroderie aspect, the cultural aspect, etc. etc. etc.
But there are also negative aspects that deserve comment...
I recently went back...-

by skybird5Am posting this because I'm most disturbed about these happenings at a lovely social pow wow that was in the PHX Metropolitan area on April 28, 2007.
Harlan Barehand organized a very nice event for his Family's reunion, at the St. John's school at Gila Crossing. It included gourd dancing,...-
