Do you think a committee might get several really good drums, instead of just 1 or 2..... by increasing the drum contest money instead of spending 5-10 grand on host drums???

We'll be sure and give every dance category at least 2 chances to win......regular contest & special dance contest. If we had enough money we'd split jingle into old style and contemp........do the same for grass.

a really good 49 is a sure way to decrease turnout! everyone will be too hungover to come back.
The only time its too late to start dancing is when you're dead.

I have to agree with bigger prize money attracting more, and higher caliber, dancers.

There's been a good drum turn out I'd say, HYPOTHETICALLY. Maybe a little more cash incentive there might help.

IMPROVE THE GROUNDS! Anybody remember the hypothetical sand storm a few years ago?? The grass in the center is nice, but all the dust comes from the outlying areas. Start watering the area down in May, and continue until a week before. Get EST out there to help.

And where's all these peeps gonna sit?? At least improve the bleacher seating. The chairs can spill out into the arena.

And um....lower the price for a food stand by a little, please! I'd like to have a stand again, but the fee might prevent it. Hypothetically speaking, of course!
            ...it is what it is...

Some pow-wows have evening sessions only........this gives folks recoop time---not just from 49's but from the regular singing and dancing and juss plain o' socializing. One case in point would be Fort Washakie/Eastern Shoshone Indian Days, June 22-24 Fri @7 [email protected] 6 and Sun @5.

After I recovered from the shock, I would put half into drums, either host or drum contest, depending on where I had a bigger need. (Definetly cornerstone of the powwow.)

Then i would use the other half to add a special contest, like team dancing. or something else fun. When you try spreading $10,000 through all your dance contest, it really isn't enough. But you can use it to give dancers an extra chance to win.

This way you could pull more singers and dancers.

How about local adverstising in the papers, as well as any native publications, and as mentioned above the internet sites. Maybe a public radio spot or interview on a program about the powwow and all that it offers.
