Powwow in the Pines
The White Mountain Apache Tribe's Hon-Dah Resort and Casino will host the Tenth Annual Powwow in the Pines June 9-10.
The Hon-Dah Resort is located at the junction of Highways 260 and 73 in Pinetop.
The Host Northern Drum will be Midnite Express of Minnesota; the Host Southern Drum will be Eagle Claw of Oklahoma. The Head Man will be Leo Calabaza of Arizona; Head Woman-Nita Track of Arizona; Head Young Man-Issac Yazzie, Arizona; Head Young Woman-Teri Davonne John, Arizona; Head Gourd-Roger Tofpi, New Mexico; Arena Director-Lee Williams, Arizona; Master of Ceremonies-Arnold Chee, Arizona; Co-Master of Ceremonies-Phil R. Dupoint, Oklahoma.
Drum group contestants must provide their own chairs and canopy.
The Grand Entries will be at 12 and 7 p.m., Saturday; and 12 noon on Sunday. Gourd dancing will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Saturday; and 11 a.m., Sunday.
Contest points begin Saturday at 12 noon at Grand Entry. Registration will be between 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday for $5 per dancer and individual drummer. For more information visit www.hon-dah.com.
