I had the opportunity to go to this powwow in the late 90's. Still got the t-shirt in my closet!lol The MC was a guy called 8-ball. He was pretty funny. My son got 1st in boy's tradish there. And the feeds were awesome! Had salmon and taniga!

I think the whole community up here is so excited about this special and memorial for Cameron. You can feel the excitement in the air and for the family. Not to mention the Muckleshoot tribe has a all new dance ground, new camping area, etc. The tribe also has put up huge tents just in case of inclimate weather or if shade is needed. Gosh, I wish it was time to get off work now, to be heading out there. Dang, its only 9:16 am.

Muckleshoot: Yes, there is quite the huge Grass Dance Special in memory of Cameron Johnston, a young grass dancer who lost his life in an auto accident last year. First prize is $2,000. I don't have the other amounts, but I recall them as being $1,500 second place, $1,000 third place ... anyways several places over a grand each and very tall trophies because Cameron liked trophies. There will even be a 10 and under Boys Grass special honoring Cameron's childhood (he was 22 when he died, I think?) with a first place of around $400. There is much effort being poured into this memorial and it will certainly be one of the biggest in the Northwest.

    Yeah, what he said....

Dang all 3 sound real good. But I have to stick close to the one near here at Muckleshoot. Fort Washakie sounds like it will be rockn and bringing down the house with all those good southern drums, and northern ones too! But we have some mighty fine singing groups coming to Muckleshoot too, not to mention Cameron's grass dance special. Gotta be there for the family for that one. We do have a real good southern drum here locally know as Medicine Whistle.

To all you peeps out there who haven't been to Muckleshoot, this one has really grown in the last few years to a big one, with nice covering for the drums, dancers, etc., lots of vendors, new dance grounds, new camping area, and showers included, you can't beat that to much.

The committee at Fort Washakie has 24 tepees up for special guests. Last check there were still about 4 or 5 available. PM or e-mail me to reserve one for you and your crew;)

Let's say you have the months of May through August to do nothing but go from powwow to powwow - where would you make sure that you go? Why would you go there - because the competition is good? Because the comraderie is good? Because the food is good? Close your eyes and dream.
