OOps, I thought someone posted drums already!!
Um, there were 8 i think...The two hosts and Thundering Spirit, River Cree, Sacred Wind, The Boyz, Preyin Eagle, High Valley, Quart Low, Blu Thunder, Badger Shield.
1-The Boyz
2-River Cree
3-High Valley
4-Thundering spirit I think?
5-Blu Thunder
6-Quart Low
So, Quart Low was the only southern drum in the contest it was Glen ahhaitty and LLoyd, etc. And Blu Thunder rocked with just their usual 5-6 guys (Good Job BUDGE!), High Valley was the So. Calif. Original Style singers-Terry, Leland, Taite, Darnell, Calvin, etc...Great singing!! Um, River Cree-I think was from Canada somewhere. That's all I can remember, The Boyz also won the hand drum contest.

Yes, spaces wouldve helped!!! Sometimes I put them in cool columns and then when I click POST, the whole thing gets screwed up and ends up in a list anyway!! Was just having a time issue so I typed them in real fast, Sorry about that!!!
And as a tabulator, you wouldn't believe how many people come up after the pow wow and say "I think I shouldve placed".Nothing surprises me anymore. But i'm not getting too excited about the tabulation at Sycuan, just because it looked all good, doesn't mean there weren't issues. At least it was timely.

I was the tabulator this year at Sycuan. It was a challenging job especially since I didn't have a "crew" so to speak. I had a helper who did an outstanding job keeping up with me. The tabulations were complete and in order after the juniors and teens danced on Sunday afternoon.
I actually loaded my computer program on Sunday morning after the adult categories were complete to validate and QA my manual tabulations. This was done to ensure all the checks and balances were in place for a fair and honest result. As far as any issues, there were none to speak of. Everything ran very smoothly considering the pace of the contests on Friday and Saturday nights.
It was amazing how many people interrupted me all weekend wanting to check their grand entry points though. I had to continually remind people that I was merely the "bean counter" and had nothing to do with any decisions made by the committee and had to continually refer people to the commitee to check their grand entry points.
After the awards were presented, my books were open to anyone who cared to review their points in case they felt they "should have won", but no one stopped by.
I think the Sycuan committee did a good job restoring their powwow. I'm sure they are reading this website and enjoying the positive feedback they are receiving and will consider the suggestions that different ones have made to them.
Thank you to all of you that supported me and the kinds words. Haw.

Awsome Powwow!
My Man and I went there for thee very first time and had a Blast! We traveled pretty far and the people down there were very hospitable! Everyone (Cept a couple number takers! lol) treated us really good! Very nice atmosphere and I dug on the mist around the arbor~
My only unpleasant experience was when they were giving out the meal tickets (VERY NICE OF THEM BY THE WAY) this lady told my man that he had already gotten his because she marked down his number already and we told her that we just got his number out of our locked car, but she kept talking over him n told him that she writes the numbers down as she sees them so we are just gonna have to step aside! lol flat rude! Then some other dancer saw what was happening and gave my man his tickets (May him and his family be blessed for being such good people!) then the lady told My Man that he might as well take those ones cause she cant give him another...again being rude but she ended up giving My Man his tickets and then come to find out someone that was in front of us told her his number backwards and got his tickets anyways!
It wouldnt have been too bad if she hadent been so rude about it! Other than that the rest of the powwow was awsome! Very refreshing to be around genuine people just trying to have a good time and enjoy each others company and get down to some good jamms! What more can anyone ask for!

Oh yeah, that was another drawback. Those people are very stingy with their feeding people! You woulda thought that with that HUGE Casino they could do like the other Casino powwows and feed the whole crowd, surely they can afford it, but they treated those meal tickets like gold and you only got this amount and only for the dancers. I mean $10 was ok, but considering that a plain ol' hamburger cost $5, it was ridiculous! Lighten up committee, people travel a long way, at least show some hospitality by offering water (which they were also selling, unless you just used a cup), snacks, a little dinner on Sat. would've been nice, don't be so stingy!!>>BOOMER~SOONER<<

by skybird5I was looking at the schedule posted online at the Ft.McDowell Casino website last night and it says that each group of dancers will have winners announced right after their group contests.
So Friday night-Golden Age contests, winners announced and they're done. Saturday night-Adult women, both...-

by WindjammerCongrats to all the winners at Schemitzun this year, dancing and singing in all that heat and humidity you all deserve it. This was actually my first time going back in quite a while and I must say that I was disappointed with the overall atmosphere and tempo of the pow wow. For one thing, Schemitzun...

by CelenaI'll start out by saying the usual things were good about this powwow: the drums and the dancers. It's them that ultimately make or break a powwow, for the most part. There were some really great specials and the dancers really put up a good competition. The weather was mild, and it was not unbearably...
