Sycuan Powwow Sept 7-9th

We'll be heading out to this one, been a long time since we've been there........looking for some good fun and sun...ayeeeee.

Winner's list don't know. They used the contestant numbers only for tabulation to be objective. hopefully, using merriam-Webster's on-line definition (3a & 3b). So they called winners by their numbers. Overall, pretty good shindig (1a).

Last I heard...about 10 last night- is that Sycuan tabulations will all be recalculated today and contestants can call on Tuesday to see if their standings have changed.
It sounds like it was another Sycuan tabulation nightmare-Yeah-don't all pow wows use contestant numbers to be objective? BUT how difficult is it to just connect the numbers to names for calling out the winners? I was told they used people's initials also, which still wasn't that helpful. And what about all the ties?
Seems like it's the same story every year for the contest part of this pow wow-issues with tabulation. For at least 5 years people have been saying "Get Ryan Rumley and his crew" for this pow wow, but word is that Sycuan uses casino accounting staff and they aren't 'pow wow savvy'.

So different people may have won all together? The winners did seem wierd... out of order.

they also had ties and called numbers up and nobody came out there to dance. Some people went to the speaker stand and asked if they even were calling valid numbers...

Another Suggestion for Sycuan PW...MOW THE LAWN!! & Don't water the arena either!!!! New tabulators are a must, most DEFINITELY!!

OMG, how crazy, i hope all the Cali powwows are not like this b/c i want to go to one this year.....hopefully they straigthen it out

Nope, they are not. This powwow always has problems. But Morongo and San Manuel have not. (I haven't been to the others to know for sure.)

Always remember that you can not judge a powwow by what happen somewhere else. Just cuz they are down the road from each other, doesn't mean the same committee is running it. Good example of this is a lot of people think southwest powwows are bad cuz one powwow (NDN TIME POWWOW) ran by a local family did not even have any money at payout time. And now that reputation is taking forever to forget.

On the Cali curcuit, each powwow is run by a different band/tribe.

By the way, I would definetly recommend Morongo or San Manuel. Those were both awesome powwows. And I think "The Rumley Crew" does tabulation at one of them.

Yeahhhhh. known the Rumley crew since back in da day....LOL

But it is true, non of the Cali powwows are run by the same committee's. But they do have help from some other sources. I know Tommy and his crew at San Manuel, very well, they rock. I love this powwow, they do a great job and treat everyone very well too. Plus, when its not raining the grass is......sooooo nice to dance on. Too bad last year it rained and they moved it into the gym. Have to give a kudos to the committee for having to do things at the last moment. Morongo has improved, when I used to go, there were barely any dancers. Now with the bigger payouts and their new hotel, its attracted more people than before. Indio has remained the same, its a pretty good powwow to go too. Then some of the local Univ and College powwows are nice to go to, just to chill. So don't judge a book by its cover, the only way to know is to go......haha

Yeah, I called today & for women's jingle, the winners are as stands & told on Sunday. When I called, she didn't even go over the points, just went down a list of INITIALS!

Although I sang at this one in 2002 and it was pretty good....The committee took good care of us....Pretty good accomadations....Transportation....The Powwow Head staff was good....Got out at a reasonable time too...We hosted that year and I enjoyed the Powwow. Returned in 2004 and won the Singing Contest....It was HOT! The arena has water misters that take the edge off....

Barona, Morongo, San Manuel, etc.....All good powwows....

I called for Southern Cloth and I'm not sure about how others did but she just gave me my standing, so maybe that means the winners stand as is.

I think if u danced in adult divisions u should call. She said all juniors and teens stand as is.

GEE, I wonder WHO the Ryan Rumley crew is???? Ain't nothing like self promotion.......... And why is it that you're always knocking the tabulations at the powwows that your crew isn't involved in?? Everybody's human, everybody makes mistakes, at least they caught them and are willing to set the record straight. I know for a fact that your crew isn't as perfect as you try to make yourself sound, cause if you were, then why aren't you "in demand" more often for these powwows???????? You've all made your share of mistakes in the past. Maybe if you tried to be more humble you might get your crew more jobs.......it ain't all about the money anyway....right????? And some people shouldn't be pointing fingers at others who are trying to be "powwow savvy". It's good that these committee's are trying to get their members more involved in these things, they aren't powwow people anyway, gotta learn somehow...mistakes and all!! Give em a break!

Just got off the phone with them.

They are working very hard to correct the situation and make things right.

The are going to issue me a written statement later today and I'll post it as soon as I get it.
