    O'siyo
    Please excuse my ignorance......
I am new to walking the path of the Red Road since my Native American Heritages had been kept from me as I was growing up.
Since this time I have been learning from the Chief of the United Lumbee Nation Redwolf band of Arkansas. He has asked me to help organize a Pow Wow. This is something very new to me and I could use all the help suggestions and ideas that anyone is able to provide me with.
We have the location as to where we will be able to hold the PowWow as well as an abt date ....Fall 2009. Any help or suggestions you may be able to provide me with will be gratefully appriecated.

    Coyote,

For starters, please don't put your friend's title, "Chief of the United Lumbee Nation Redwolf band of Arkansas" on your powwow poster.

If you do, it will immediately send up a red flag to powwow people.
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

United Lumbee Nation of North Carolina and America,
Arkansas Red Wolf American Native Band”

            Coyote,

            I am a little confused.

            Are you talking about:

            1. The United Lumbee Nation Redwolf band of Arkansas?
            2. The United Lumbee Nation of Northern California and America?
            3. The Arkansas Red Wolf American Band? OR
            4. The Average White Band (*L sorry I just added this on my own).

Also WHO is the Lumbee Regional Association of Pembroke, North Carolina?
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

If this person is Lumbee, why is he/she using Cherokee phraseology?

We are part of the Northern California tribe which IS state recognized. Our Grand Chief is Silvester.
I have search several Sources and I can not find:
United Lumbee Nation of Northern California
Or United Lumbee Nation of Northern California and America
Listed anywhere as a State Recognized tribe or a Tribal group that has sought Federal Recognition
I have looked on the BIA website and NCSLnet

The closest tribe I can find that is listed in California is:

United Lumbee Nation of North Carolina and America
c/o Mrs. Eva Jones Reed (Phone Unknown)
                          P.O. Box 911
Exeter, CA 93221 Letter of Intent to Petition 04/28/1980
                          Declined to Acknowledge 07/02/1985 50 FR 18746

Appears they applied for Federal Recognition in 1980 and the BIA sent back a Decline to Acknowledge in 1985

                          I also found:

United Lumbee Nation of NC & America
                          Northern California Agency
                          P.O. Box 512
                          Fall River Mills, CA 96028
                          Tel# (916) 336-6701

Native tribes without federal or state recognition

But none of these Entities are State or Federal Recognized

Note that this is listed under CALIF. tribes not NORTH CAROLINA.

I did not mean to stir up a hornets nest here but ppl do need to have their fact straight before the claim that we are a FRAUD tribe related to North Carolina due to the fact that they have it listed as N.C. for us which stands for NORTHERN CALIFORINA.

I am well aware of the claims against us and we are doing what we can to clear this up. I came here for suggestions on how to set up a POW WOW not to be brow beatened.
As I said in the beginning EXCUSE my IGNORANCE. At least I am trying to learn the TRUE path.

When I came in to post it was to ask for help but since that time I have been trying to defend my tribe to you. I admitted that I may be of ignorance on many things but what I am not ingnorance of is the fact that ppl do not rely on facts but just what they see and believe it to be true. Just b/c that one site states we are a FRAUD tribe does not make it so.
If you would like to know more of our tribe the please do contact our grand chief Silver Star Reed at
United Lumbee Nation of NC & America

                              Tel# (916) 336-6701

NC is NOT North Carlonia where our tribe is concerned but it stands for Northern California.

Again I do apologize for my ignorance and the attempt to seek some help.
