          Apache Gold WInners list

I found this list on myspace...one of my friends is AZPOWWOWS and had the list first thing Monday morning.Of course since I was there, I didn't need to know but I didn't write them down this time,so i couldnt' post them here. I guess I got scooped, LOL!!!

And yeah, the pow wow was WAY small, only seven drums in all, no big names, all local/pick up drums. the weather was great though, it was in a building with walls and HEATERs, so it was totally climate controlled, AC was on sat. afternoon. Just a bit of dust from the rodeo ground floor during saturday night, but other than that, no bundling up and snuggling needed, DARN!!

wow, that was pretty small.....compared to years before.....hmmm, what could have caused this?...maybe inflated prices on rooms from neighboring towns???.....anyway, overall sounded like fun.....congrats to my relatives, inlaws and outlaws that all placed!!!!......LOL!!!

              The powwow was very small.

              Re: motel rooms
Motel 6 gave away our hotel rooms on Friday night (and the rest of the weekend!!) They didn't give a valid reason, at all. We were pretty livid. I suspect they "gave our rooms away" ..because they wanted to charge peoples $100.00 a night! CRAZY!
We had our rooms reserved 2 months in advance with a credit card but they still gave them away for the weekend!

              HORRIBLE SERVICE!

Did you call corporate? Although it might be a franchise motel, they still have to follow the guidleines set forth by Accor Motels.....they own them. That happened to us once down in cali, during Morongo....I called and corporate got us a room at the Marriot in Palm Springs for our trouble. As long as you have proof that it was reserved, you have the confirmation numbers and that you specifically told them you would be arriving late.

Actually even if it has a Motel 6 name and logo doesn't mean they are all franchised into Accor. Like most Best Westerns, Comfort Inns, and other hotels in small cities, they are locally owned but just 'buy in' to the corporate name. They have their own set of booking rules, etc not the corporate ones. So be careful of where you are booking, etc. This is one of the reasons why us travel agents never book Motel 6 properties. Try to get a hold of the owner of the hotel and even try to call Motel 6 corporate center. They may help and they may not. Then if all else fails, contact the BBB of the town and report them. After that you can do legal action too.

Just a reminder, there are some hotels that will give away your room if you don't check in by 6pm. I know this happens in Chinle, AZ too. I have seen lines of people waiting in the lobby until 6pm for a room that has not been checked in, especially on sold out weekends or days. So because this was a sold out weekend or date thus the reason they gave your room away. The only way to get out of it is by calling the hotel before 4pm to advise of a late check in or when your making your reservations advise them that you'll be arriving late. I do this all the time.

I hope your weekend was better though. Next time use a travel agent to book your travel, we have better guarantee's and more clout with the hotels if something happens. :D

My sister and I were thinking that costs associated to go Apache gold was the probably the exact reason why people didn't come. We paid $60 a nite at the Motel6, but we checked in at 4pm, just in case...I know the Travelodge only had one room left but it was $169.99!!! FOR THE TRAVELODGE!! that's crazy, my friend ended up getting a king suite at the casino for $199 a night instead.

Plus, it cost $5 a session if you werent singing or dancing, they even chased everyone out on saturday at supper break so they had to re-pay for the saturday night session!

I also think they should have put out the "extended" flyer as in years past, with all the categories and prize money on it. The flyer for this year didnt' have any information at all. There were 5 places in the drum contest-prize money was $3000, 2500, 2000, 1500 and 1000. Plus they paid day money to the drums on Friday night.
