I don't know where the values of drum protocol went but the ability to sing or compose songs is not a given. Those gifts have been extended from the Creator so that you can bring good things to the people.

I think the new generation, with the ever growing drum contest, and tribes that traditionally aren't powwow people embracing powwows has really driven new drum groups to emerge. What did not follow was drum protocol. Call me old school or whatever but respect and reverance should be extended the drums, they are not something to mess around with. Singers should be dressed in their best, be it new or old (that's how I was raised). How about just CLEAN and laundered? Shorts, tank style t-shirts, flip flops, should NOT be worn at a drum. I've been asked to judge drum contests and I'll be the first to give you the big Z based on your appearance alone. Slacks, jeans, button down shirts that would be my recommendation.

Wow Chaz that's alot. There are no pow wow's by me or that I go to where the prize money it like that. The most that I've ever seen it was like $1,000 maybe once or twice $1,500. But not much more then that.

$500 bucks split 10 ways? That might pay for gas one way for a 4 hour trip. Nothing left to go to Value Village.

Yep, usually we just fill everyones gas tanks up and have a massive dinner after the powwow.....get all the families fed, but you do get the "one", you know the one that cries for splitting money and ends up buying crack or weed...LOL!!!.....oh well to each his own I guess.......whatevers left we just put in the little savings bag for the next powwow, so whoever within the drum can get some munchies or drinks (ie: coffee, soda, water, had to clarify this, LOL!!)......pretty much though for the majority of us here, it's just being able to go to a powwow or jsut being able to sing is good enough...money is nice, but not something we can rely on to make a living.....which is why we got "real" jobs.....LOL!!!!!
