Who was all in the dance off????
or how did they do it???
The dance off for the cars included all the adults, 18 and over who placed in the contest AND each night they had a couple of judges who picked additional people to get into the dance off for the cars. The dance off had judges to eliminate dancers until they got to 5 but for the most part the judges weren't used because the contest was on the honor system and the dancers needed to disqualify themselves if they missed the song. Each catergory had about 27 dancers when they started.

The women had 2 songs, a straight song and a stop song. The stop song eliminated about 1/2 the contestants. The next set of 3 songs was a foot slide, double beat and a straight. The finally two songs, had only 4 dancers left, two golden age dancers, a jingler and a fancy shawl. A stop song hmm, maybe it was two stop songs, but the first one eliminated the jingler, Lauren Frank. The finally song had 2 golden age, Mrs Shepard, White Bear SK, Evonne Chase, ND and fancy shawl, Kelly Lebeau, SD. They judged them with about 10 judges and Kelly Lebeau won the car.

The men's contest had a straight song and stop song. The next three were a foot slide, double beat and a duck and dive. The final 2 songs were an okla style song and hmm a stop song I think. The final seven men were 3 grass dancers, Russel Young Bird, Ft Yates, ND, Wambli Charging Eagle, Eagle butte, SD, Rusty Gillette, Bismarck, ND, 2 tradish dancers, Kevin Heywahay, Carry the Kettle, SK, Charles Lester Jr, Cannonball ND and Richard Rock, Rocky Boy, MT Golden Age Grass and Jazz Bearstail, Mandaree, Fancy Feather. The Oklahoma song took out the fancy dancer, which kind of suprised me and they were judged by about 10 judges after the last song and Rusty Gillette won the car.

Pretty cho contest, I wish I would have video taped it.
