        winnebago winners

So does anyone know why these people have problems with their tabulations every year? Last year, the year before, etc. you would think with 140 or so years behind them of having pow wows, they would be tops in their field for tabulations, no ties, expert experienced, intelligent, and neutral and not given to pressure from people who try to influence them to put in favorites. Committee people aren't even experienced people in the culture of pow wows run the event. Hmmm. Makes one wonder. Lots of good drums and dancers do not attend anymore because of this reputation of fouling up the points, tabs, etc.

Winnebago pow wow isn't what it used to be. Today too much politics

last time i was at this powwow, different families invited different groups, and when their contest didnt turn out the way they wanted, the ballots mysteriously vanished!! they ended up taking the top "3" drums and having them sing 1 song out in the middle(how do we even know those were the top groups with no proof?). which meant being there all weekend singing, making roll calls, getting picked for second songs was all for nothing! people were arguing with each other, and 1 of the groups was from alb. can., just left with what they were originally paid because of all the bickering. the group stated they were just honored to be invited to that part of the country n you could tell they wanted no part in all that drama (really humble men). from what i understand there wasnt 2 many groups back since.....maybe it's cuz of how they treat the visiting drums?? i thought powwow committees liked it when they would get "different" music at their gatherings? not tryin' to start drama, but maybe thats the reason in the decline of "big name" groups headed down that way.

I heard they kept everyone there til 3:45am on Saturday night. The only time I remember being at a powwow for that long was at Rocky Boy back in the early 90's...lol...waitin for the winners on Sunday night (or Monday morning...lol).

                  ON a positive side...

That men's fancy dance special was really nice. I liked how they got to the finals and then the family turned it over to crowd to pick the winners. The winner was Schofield.
