LUMBEE FALL POW-WOW

OVER $8,000.00 IN PRIZE MONEY
The annual Lumbee Tribal fall Pow-Wow has been set by the LRDA Board of Directors the weekend of October 24th – 26th. The location of the event will be on Prospect Road in Pembroke, NC across from UNC-Pembroke.
A special appearance at the event this year will be Movie Star, poet, and champion grass dancer Solomon Trimble, Mescalero Apache, Lakota, from Portland, Oregon.
Trimble will star in a major motion film called Twilight, which is expected to premier in October, or November. His talent manager is a former Miss Lumbee, Jackie Jacobs who lives in Seattle, Washington, and is owner of the JTalent Group. Solomon also holds a masters degree and is honing his talent at spoken word poet, and provides lectures to native youth on the subject of tobacco cessation.
Trimble has been a grass dancer since the age of 3, and will showcase his talent at the Pow-Wow. His personal information and story about the movie can be found on my-space on the Internet.
Over $8,000.00 in prize money will be awarded in the adult and youth dance categories. LRDA is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and began sponsoring Lumbee Tribal Pow-Wows in the early 1970’s. This event and Lumbee Homecoming has lead to a massive renaissance of traditional Lumbee Culture and pride over the past four decades.
Lumbee youth have showcased this culture and heritage all across the nation at many inter-tribal events, and at the Miss America and Miss Indian World pageants with great success.
Gates for the public will open at 4 pm. on Friday October 24th, and run through Sunday, October 26th. Please visit our web-site as we continue to update with additional information on grand entry times, competition categories, etc.
