I like a little change once in a awhile, but if a certain powwow wants to keep the same "everything" that's their business I guess. Until they invite me to volunteer and then start asking me to donate, donate, donate. Then it becomes my business! LOL

there are some MC's out there ... gawd makes ya wonder how they even get MC jobs because they are so great at dragging things on LOLWatch your broken dreams...

Well ours are pretty much a social for the kids every year. So most of our headstaff, we've kept the same northern drum for the last 3 years. Partly because they are really good guys who are all sober (which is very important since its a kids powwow) and they have always been generous. This year they are getting something special since the committee is appreciative of their dedication to this powwow. We changed the southern drum, again a sober drum. The MC and AD offers their services out of generousity. Then the head dancers are a teen boy and teen girl who are doing well in school, shows respect, and rolemodels to the children. We choose different kids every year for this. The powwow I run is for the community, not anyone else, they are fed, Santa comes around with gifts for all children (courtesy of the Toys for Tots Foundation), I fundraise, get the raffle items, etc. But in the end its for the kids who may not have an opportunity to have much stuff. I know the economy is hard and some parents may not have much to give during this time. So its nice to see all the smiles coming around. Plus we honor the elders too, never forget about them. The Head Staff are all treated well, fed well, and we are proud to have them help us out. Even though we don't have 1000's of dollars, we do what we can. The only thing that is disappointing is the local tribes don't really help us out. Only 1 tribe has helped us out every year but the others...just don't seem interested. To me its sad because its for the kids and it just tells me they don't really care about the children. Its even sadder when you think that these leaders who say its about the children and education yet they turn the other way when you ask for donations.
Oh well back to the subject.... I think it depends on what type of powwow you are running. Personally for contest powwows, I like to see different drums every year or at least every other year. There are soooo many good drums and dancers that there is enough to be on headstaff to change it every year. But for AD's and MC's, there are a select few that can really do it, although it does get boring sometimes to hear the same voice, the same jokes, etc.
Only my $1's worth.....heck you can't do much with 2 cents nowadays...LOLYou have crossed my path, You will never be forgotten......

Powwows should change their head staff every year. There is enough good dancers and singers to allow that. It keeps things exciting.
I also agree about promoting healthy living with the head staff. We need more of that.
M.C's are in short supply, so we still have to listen to the same jokes - good or bad. hahahaha.....

A good MC is hard to find
Ya know in lotsa places you may only have the 1 emcee. So whaddya do? Important guys who don't know your peeps or what is appropriate for your event?
Also for the drums, unless ya gots big money all you can do is rotate your coupla local drums.
I know lots of contests give the head drum to the previous year's champions. Maybe we oughta start a joke off for emcees?
As for the AD keep the same guys as much as possible is my opinion- he knows your committee, he knows your location, and he knows the people in your area and how to smooth over things.
And ya, finding good upstanding sober folks can be a problem.

I do not agree at all with the same MC and Head judges and especially same tabulators which I am sure I spelled that wrong. I think that every year there should be some kind of change up. I know of this one PW that happens every year and they pay out good money but it is alwayssame head staff. So I quit goin and it has been years since I have been and it is still the same.SoftWind

by Wing Walkerhaving traveled lots, i would like your opinion on tabulations
point spreds etc. i have found that some pow wows tabulate, the points triple according to what place judges put you down for ie 3rd 7pts 2nd 21pts 1st 28pts (is any dancer twice as good as the next)
i think a 5 point...-

by Wojapi4MeHow many pow wows do you guys think will be cancelled this year due to the economy? With many Indian casinos laying off people, do you think it'd be in poor taste for those same tribes to host big money dances this year?
What are your thoughts?
Personally, I think...-
