lol ok so I really love making videos, i love singin the whole deal. My problem is I can't find a decent video recorder(digital with a hard drive instead of direct to cd for editing) to record bad A songs at powwows without getting this RIDCULOUS distortin from the bass... Anybody have any ideas or suggestions of good products..

Well as far as video cameras go I would not trust anything that records direct to HDD (for the exception of a few professional drives) or CD. Minidv tape is still extremely reliable. As far as audio goes, the problem with the bass is probably an issue with your levels are peaking and thus clipping. Check your camera to see if you can manually lower the levels. This of course is if I understand your problem correctly.

Well see the problem with the saving direct to disc is that it makes it more difficult to edit because its finalized into a more difficult format which you can only edit to a certain extent. so does any body have any good quality vid cams that you have recorded singing at powwows and the drum isn't distorted?

I've used a Panasonic DVX100B to record drums before with awsome results.

how about an external mic? i thnk the ones loaded onto the cameras were meant to take full advantage of a baby shower setting. hey its an idea

Yea that is what i have been looking into, external mics but its hard to find a cam wit mic input.

If you don't mind me asking, whats your budget? I'll try to pull my resources together to find something good with a mic input and not drain your wallet. BTW I do film production for a living (sort of, bad economy hehe).

PS. If you find a cam with a 1/8" mini mic input, or some other type, you can buy / make an adapter to convert it over to the XLR that most high end mics use.

I have used a panasonic mini DV (only paid about $230.00) for the past 4 or 5 years. The audio is incredible!!! I have ran the audio through a few filters on Cool Edit Pro and I swear that the end result was better than certain recording companies out there.

I thought that a lot of cameras did come with a 1/8 in. plug in for a mic. If you do opt this route check to see if the camera provides phantom power to the mic, if not you will need a mic with a battery or some kind of external power.

Most all cameras do have a 1/8" mini connector, even my old Sony 8mmXR did. The only issue is how good the camera is at controlling the audio levels, provided that a large portion of consumer end cameras do not offer manual control, though some do. Take a look at Sony's HDR-FX1000K, does 1080p HDV with 24p mode, its a bit on the pricey side, but B&H offers a kit that gives you a bunch of stuff including a Sennheiser mic.

i just got a sony handicam hybrid for Christmas. it has internal memory and a slot for a memory card and you can record to mini DVDs. the only major expense is the DVD- RWs. i have not really had a chance to record and edit all that much. one option is to record to the DVD and edit on your computer later.
