Do certain individuals of groups of powwow people automatically deserve "special" treatment at a powwow?

LMFAO!!!!..........can of worms.........who isn't a Diva these days????...........what gets me are the awesome people who show great athletic ability by dancing only to dress like a gangsta ho with no class........many "top" names to be put here....LOL!!!!........but I guess to each his own.........and IMO, everyone deserves equal treatment.......there is no such thing a special treatment for one person, one drum......thats BS...

i can name two drum groups... when they show up at a powwow, they automaticaly thing ppl will serve them

I find when we are outside Oklahoma and we wear our OU hats backwards we get the whole Diva treatment
Especially to the south and east

Dude, you're just taking all of the fun out of it now. Its funny how people want to dress like gangsta thugs and get offended when people start treating them like that. I know a couple of dancers who act like that. One man was so upset that he didn't place in a men's traditional special that he went to the AD, the committee and asked for a recount. When he still finished 4th; he berated the individual who finished 3rd. Anyway, after all of this the committee caved and gave him the 3rd place prize money. They then made a special 4th place finish for this individual whose prize money was taken and gave him like $200.00 rather than the $400.00 he had won. He has never gone back to this powwow. I found it amazing that anybody even had the gall to try that. I would have been grateful for just having the honour of competing in a memorial special. This guy was supposed to be a highly respected person; some viewed him as an Elder. I lost a lot of respect for this individual.

lol....something like that happened to Paul and I a few years back at Red Earth. (And a traditional dancer, too.) He let us have it because he came in 4th and only 3 places were paid. One of his family members that overheard apologized to me later on his behalf.

I have heard a few singers say...."I sing with ______" or "don't you know who I sing with?" expecting some sort of special treatment or service..I thought GEEEEEZ.........lmao

I have seen lots of diva-ish acts after the pw, too. They get even worse later in the evening....

Get's shutout.

AD's brother gets 1st place in my friend's category.

My friend goes up to the AD afterward and says, "I got the gate.......I got the shaft."

Looks the AD in the eye, shakes his hand and walks off!
