4th of July no celebration

If this is how you feel, don't celebrate it at all. It's not a requirement to celebrate July 4th. Instead, just celebrate that you woke up breathing.

I'm celebrating the 4th by doing the wifely duties. Then I'll stay home with the boys and girls after dark so they don't freak out.

Happy 4th of July to all you Native American veterans out there. Have an extra cold one for me, or an extra hot dog. Thank you for all you have done for our Country, especially any Army veterans. You are a unique and special group, your service is commendable, and appreciated, without your sacrifice and devotion to duty, we would not have this celebration day. We owe a great deal to our veterans. If it wasn't for them, we would have no country that would b the united states.. celebrate for the vets..

My dad is a veteran also. he was in the navy during wwII..

I celebrated the 4th by going to the local Choctaw casino. They had fireworks, about a half hour, but pretty good. We had dinner at their buffet, I had barbeque ribs, and the fixin's. We gambled a bit, won a bit. They had a Country band there, it was ok. They had alot of guitars, with that many guitars it had to be good. There was alot of people there, we had to park way out and use one of those little golf cart things to get to the casino.

I'm not Choctaw, our casinos are a long ways away, in another State. I don't know what they did for the 4th, but judging from the last per cap check, my guess is they gave the guests a box of sparklers, and some matches, and let them run around the parking lot.

We head down south of carnegie ok on July 1st and set up camp and on the 2nd thru the 4th of July we dance
No fireworks
just camping with friends and family
We raise the flag every morning in our camp
and lower it at the end of the day

I cant think of a better place to be

Oh, yeah, I've been down that way before, some pretty country down there. I stayed at a Motel there in Anadarko, Indian owned motel, and then went to a pow wow given by the Delaware Tribe. It was in that area somewhere, out west of Anadarko. We used to live in Kingfisher, for awhile, went to that pow wow on a weekend trip. Of course I was stationed at Fort Sill, just south of there, way back around 1966. Went to Artillery School there, trained for Pershing Missile, there and fired missiles into White Sands from Utah. I was in training at Fort Sill for about a year, then went to Germany. It's nice out that way, but I prefer east Oklahoma, around the Cherokee Nation and the Choctaw Nation, as well as the Creek Nation. Ya get all the lakes and all the mountains on the east side.

I try to go to Cherokee every year for the 4th for the pow wow and visit with friends and family. This year was really great some of my friends were there that I don't get to see very often and the house was totally packed and we had people sleeping in their cars and trucks. Then after the pow wow there are fireworks and they are really good. I usually go with some of my family but this year something came up, but i'd prefer to make my own when I can.LOL But it was a good show and the pow wow was great. Had a blast.

I can see having mixed feelings about the 4th.

On July 4, 1838 (I think it was 1838) the first group of Chickasaws forcibly removed from the homeland began the trip to Oklahoma. That's sad.

At the same time I have the utmost respect for the veterans, NDN and non-NDN who've served to protect us.

Otherwise, it was a good day for a parade, time with family and friends (and mosquitos - dang it!), and watching fireworks at the county fairgrounds.

I like looking for the spook light near Devils Prominade, after Quapaw Powwow during the 4th!

I saw it once. It was a little smaller than a cantelope and larger than a soft ball. It was bouncing through the trees, as opposed through around the trees.
