It is so sad that a family can torn apart by something as simple as a wild pack of dogs.

I agree! Why have a host and pay them lotsa money when your putting up big prize money and getting good drums anyway? I don't get it... I seen a lotta pow wow's do this, even ours. The big contest money brings in good drums!

Yeah if you could put the money that you pay the host drum (which isnt chump change) into the singing contest. I bet you would have the best in the business coming to the July-amsh.

                        My 2 cents.

The Navajo Nation Fair powwow did this last year and a few good drums showed....this year, the same, no hosts, 2 invited drums and a 10K 1st place singing contest.....should be interesting........wonder what caliber of drums will show................

                            Same with the dance contest.

Along time ago, someone gave the CDA pw committee some advice. This person told them that the person(s) placing first in a contest should get more than the 2nd 3rd and so on. In a way, true, for horse races, but not for competition dancing and singing.

Now for the past however many years they have kept the pay table the same. But, you know, people keep coming back. Shoot, I do. I'd like to see the change but I'm sure it's been brought to their attention.

Oh well, go to Usk, that's what I say!!

Enjoyed this powwow back in 2K6 but they need to have it indoors...it got real windy at one point and it was hot...not Iraq hot, just hot...I ended up watching the powwow from inside the building where all the vendors were, at least the a/c works. Oh, didn't have to pay, cause I was in my Army uniform...thanx CDA.
