  • Usk, WA Kalispel Tribal Fair

Dang, probably, the biggest Kalispel Tribal Fair I have ever seen.

Here are the drums in the contest:
    Cree Confederation
    The Boyz
    Bullhorn
    Wild Rose
    Iron Spirit
    White Hawk
    Southern Express
    Dancing Eagle
    Draw Boys
It is so sad that a family can torn apart by something as simple as a wild pack of dogs.

This was the biggest Kalispel Tribal Pow-wow ever. I think having senior categories helped, and the A.D. (Keno Colby White) did a good job of getting the word out.

In addition to Ntown post, junior grass champion was Alex Meninick and junior mens fancy was Perry Thompson who danced off a two start tie against Corey Reeder.

Wild Rose won the Sunday drum roll call contest with their rendition of The Devil Went Down to Georgia. Cree Confeds did I Got Friends in Low Places, Iron Spirit did Biz Markie's Just a Friend, White Hawk did I'll Survive, The Boyz did the Hokey Pokey, I think Southern Express did the Barney song I Love You, You Love Me. Big Draw Boys did a Temptations song.

1983 was the year they started their powwow back up...from what I was told by my Mom the powwow was on hold for a decade or more till that year...I will have to make it back someday and see how the change is.

There wasn't much there in 1983. One road in, and one road out....One thing I remember from the old days was the security was checking cars for alcohol and drugs and they had loads and loads of beer, whiskey bottles, etc. confiscated sitting on the road next to the security checkpoint. They were serious about no alcohol on the grounds.

the pow-wow was pretty good this year. Lots of dancers and drums. You probably couldn't have fit another drum in the gym.

The drums that were there were White Lodge, Lightning Creek, Young Grey Horse, Red Hawk Canyon, Nichtoway, Cree Star, Dancing Eagle, Hillside, War Pony Red Tail,...

About 200 in the Grand Entry tonight. Drums present: Eagle Bear (Host?), White Hawk, Redtail, New Agency, Wild Spirit, Wild Rose, Red Sand, Lone Scout, K-Town, Indian Nation are the contest drums. Sunrise-Sunset, Parker Dam, Frog Island and a few others make up the non-contest drums. I think first place...
