I see a lot of people rippin on fake feathers, but I'd like to see them walk up to some of these war vets and elders who come into grand entries carrying the flags and staffs. When you check out the war bonnets they wear, they are turkey feathers a lot of the time. Sometimes it's just the symbology of the feather or item, not so much the feather itself.

Don't make an issue of it, just pick up & walk off. if someone asks, just tell them its not real.

Not intending to get too far off the topic, but I've always wondered what you would do if you dropped one of these "Real Legal" feathers at a powwow? I'm guessing you'd have to tell the AD it wasn't a real one or they'd be planning a pickup song.

they do real good. they're not painted. you can wash, dry and preen them just like any feather. i know a couple guys that have bustles made out of them and treat them like you would an eagle bustle. i know several people that uses for roach feathers for little kids or for themselves.

Why do you have to IMITATE eagle feathers??

If you cant have the real thing, why try and be fake about it? People use the real thing because they MEAN something ... you can't imitate the honor that goes with the real deal, and trying to IMITATE it just degrades the whole concept. Why not use feathers that you are LEGALLY able to use. Whats wrong with Turkey or Grouse feathers? We can tell that they are fake, from a distance, so you aren't fooling anyone...

black? that's boring. Paint them with "happy clouds" on them.

    teal.

New bustle on the way, I remember when my wife and I had a new bustle on the way. We worked so hard to get the room ready, I had to put the crib together, re-paint the walls. Good times.

New thread...I now have just over 2 dozen hawk feathers. Approximately how many eathers would it take to make a rather "full", u-shaped traditional dance bustle? Has anyone ever made one with hawk feathers? They're quite smaller than the goose feathers of my present bustle.
