  • Powwows in New England

Hi, my name is Paul and I am new to this site. I am not even sure if this is the correct spot to post this. I am also new to the concept of powwows, and only have a slight understanding of what they are. I would like to take this opportunity to ask if there are any in New England (preferably Massachusetts), and what should I expect?

I'm not sure of the schedule, but I hear the powwows in your region are prolly the best in the country. Followed closely by Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Well, that's what I heard from Iowa_Boy and Big Chef.

Why must I feel like that..why must I chase the cat?

Powwows in New England can sometimes have a high weirdness coefficient. (Ask me about taxidermied turkey on a stick guy someday.) So don't count on what you see being representative of powwows elsewhere.

That said, there are several good powwows in the area:

      Harvard powwow -

      Powwow

      Dartmouth powwow -

      The Dartmouth Pow-Wow

Well JD, you beat Iowa_Boy to it, ripping on PA and Ohio... LOL Then again PA isn't really New England either.

OLChemist is right, things are weird in the Northeast. There are some alright powwows though, just gotta look hard, and do a bit a traveling, like to upstate New York. Schemitzun used to be pretty darn big, decent and fun and it was in CT but due to special circumstances they havn't had it since 2008, maybe it will be back.
CERN may have discovered the Higgs Boson but...

didn't Cat in the Hat post about the Harry Potter powwow in Massachusetts? Look out for Lord Valdemort there though, he's a wicked chicken dancer.

              Hi there,
I am from New Zealand and am hoping to visit the USA next year and am wondering if non-Native people are welcome to attend Powwows? Also, if they are welcome, which of the many hundred powwows might you recommend? Is there a list of just the largest gatherings?
              Many thanks in...

              Tourism vs. Powwows.
              by WhoMe
Many state tourism bureaus are wanting to include Indian powwows in their calendar of events. This would mean non Indian tourists are officially welcomed to attend the listed powwows.

Sometimes this is a win-win situation for the larger "mega powwows." These mega powwows actually...
