  • Intertribal open to all natives?

So I am just getting back into powwow dancing from when I was 5. My local tribe is hosting a powwow but wants me to have my tribal card with me to register. I am a member of 2 federally recognized tribes however I am getting replacement cards made. To cut to the chase I wont have them in time to dance. I have been told I can still dance during inter tribal songs with out having my card. Is this true and is it not against powwow etiquette? Thank you so much for you time, R.

if you have people in yar community knows you then try it without yar card. if they know you most likely sometimes they should let you go through but sometimes it doesnt happen that way. i would go to the powwow and when you go to register see what happens. the worst they could say is you can't compete and just ask them if you can dance at intertribal. don't bring up the topic of yar card unless they ask. i dont think its against powwow etiquette i mean theres tons of people who dance almost everytime except competition.

      Tribal membership

Over the past year I have wanted to take up fancy shawl and dance at the powwows. But several local tribe members have said that I need a card in order to dance in the circles. I'm of Cherokee descent and most of the records have been lost or destoyed. It's discouraging, I want to dance. Is it true...
