Pretty crazy someone would put that in their donation stack!
A few years back I found a couple very large pipestone and the lady asked why I wanted to buy those rocks....I just laughed and said I collect rocks! I got both pieces for 50 cents! I guess some people don't know what they have!
I was at a garage sale last summer in Tahlequah and saw what looked like a nice pair of center seam leggins, nicely done along with a woven belt and moccs.
The lady that was selling the items had alot of household effects and said that her husband use to make such things but he has since past on and she was jut getting rid of the stuff. I asked her how much and she said Ohh I dont know how about 5 bucks??
I said they were worth more and she said yeah probably I just want to get rid of the stuff so I paid her the 5 bucks and now have a very nice pair of very well made leggins that the skins alone would have set me back 100 bucks easily and then to make them into a nice pair would be more money.
So you never ever know what you will find in these kind of sales or what people will donate to Goodwill.
I know that when we have a garage sale what has not sold over that weekend we donate. Of course if it was a vest like this it would have never left my possession!!!
BTW if you look at my avatar picture those are the Leggins, I tried them on that afternoon just to see what they were like and they fit like they were made for me!!!
Very nice article. Can anybody tell me what tribe did that kind of beadwork. I think is Lakota here.

What a score! I always hear about things like that, but I never find treasure at garage sales. Could be I don't get there first thing like a lot of folks do. I think you have to be there early. Great find!
many years ago, I went to a garage sale around the corner from my sisters house and this lady was selling bags of plastic bones, she had 4 bags of them, about 200 in each and she only wanted 4 dollars per bag. She also had silver beads, which I use for my sons bandoliers, about 100 per bag, and those small conch shells. All in all, I spent around 25 dollars. But I don't normally go to garage sales or salvation army. Now I'm gonna hafta go....lol
Such a beautiful vest.
sigpic This is how I dance when your standing next to me...
Hmmm...I included a pic of the back that must be off their server now.
I was thinking with the location (Seattle), the style of beadwork (applique vs. lazy stitch), and the design, that it's Plateau. The museum it was donated to will hopefully do some further research.
And now that WD has said Blackfeet, this article states "Blackfoot"....hmmmm....

What's your opinion on belt drops? Only one size conchos from belt to floor?
I have an idea for a belt drop that gradually become smaller to a tip that drags.
I've seen a couple here and there at pow wows. Where can I get a beaded baseball cap? From what I hear, someone has to do it for you. Anyone know of anybody in the Phoenix area that does this? How much (price range) does someone usually charge to have one done?
Is that what they are called or is it something else. Well they are very nice looking. My daughter had one a few years ago that went across her forehead and now I want to make one that sits at the top of the head in her hair. Does anyone know how they stay in the hair? I've heard to put velcro on the...
Ok, I am working on a new outfit...my first thing is about the what I call "new style" of yokes and vests that I have seen recently. I have noticed that instead of vest type fronts some are opting for fully beaded fronts and yokes on the back, the fronts just look like big rectangles that...
I'm a teen dancer who has been dancing for about 5 years. I finished everything else for my beaded set except the vest. After taking a few months off from working on crafts, I think it is time to sink my teeth into a beaded vest. I have no clue how to start! Should...
