I posted a thread a few years back addressing this very issue
It was not greeted with great fanfare LoL

Myths are even harder to dispel than the truth
    BTW Ruben is correct
There were no Cherokee Princess prior to Powwows

As a teen, at some rinky-dink dance in Springfield or Marshfield, MO, I tried selling that I was part Nordic and that my great, great grandmother was a Viking.

      It didn't fly.

The Scots have the same problem... seems the only way to be related to a Scot is for the ancestor to have been either William Wallace (Braveheart) or some clan chieftain that was related to Prince Charlie Stewart. No one is ever a lowly crofter or sheep farmer's descendant who got kicked off their land in the Clearances.

I was at a powwow one time with lots of tourists in the audience. As the MC was calling for all royalty and princesses to sign up before grand entry, an elderly lady came up to me and asked where the sign up sheet was.

She was as white as ever, but explained that she was a Cherokee Princess! I directed her to the MC stand and she actually signed up! In fact, she came in with the rest of the royalty in attendance and was introduced as "morning dove". How about that for equal opportunity?

I did not realize how long ago I posted this: http://forums.powwows.com/f54/cherok...stroyed-29628/

            Interesting parts to this story
Chief Moytoy has hands down most decendants claiming kinship of all the old Chiefs, enough to fill the entire populations of Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee and Georgia!! The absolute Ironic part to this old story is these same states and the entire poulations of these States did everything in there power to expell the Cherokee from there Territories in the late 1700's and early 1800's!! And now they claim kinship today now that is twisted!

Another part to this story is the two daughters of Moytoy
Historically we have very little documents regarding them but today everytime I turn around I find another Family line that seemingly traces straight to them! Thru Multiple Husbands it appears they had over 1000 children between them!! Wow busy woman!

Josiah, WhoMe, Zeke, TT, do you think you guys in the States see a larger tendancy for folks to claim royalty because you (the US) lack a monarchy?

I have noticed that there is a far higher number of folks in the US claiming royalty status on their ancestors whether they be NDN, Russian, Scots or English. I haven't see too many Canucks making that claim to being an Indian Princess et al and I've always put that down to Canada has their own royal family and we're pretty strict about laying claim to a title of any sort that is not granted permission of the Canadian government to hold. (see Conrad Black's fight with the GOC over his peerage as an example).

When folks up here lay claim to being Native, they usually include that they are either related to Louis Riel, Chief Poundmaker or a signatory on one of the numbered treaties. It seems those are the status symbols up here...lol

We have all heard this one at least one in our life: "My Great Great Great Great Great Grandmother was a Cherokee Princess".
According to History, in 1730, Sir Alexander Cuming, an emissary of King George II, conferred the title of...

We have all heard the term Cherokee Princess used sometime or another by some white person. I was at a powwow and two white people were talking about their great-great-great grandmother was a Cherokee Princess and an older lady said well do you know that you just called your grandmother a whore. :rofl2:...

Last summer, my friend Joe Has-No-Teeth and I were at a Pow-Wow in Tennessee. When the afternoon dance session ended, we headed back to camp and started to remove some of our dance clothes. We then noticed two middle-aged white ladies approaching. At first we were thinking they'd walk past and keep...

                            1/256 Cherokee?
                            by 81z
So, I have a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood card with a 1/256 fraction or 0.00390625 math percent.

I'm just wondering if it counts, or if it's so close to nothing it's not worth mentioning the difference?
