  • National powwow 17

National Powwow 17 will be held in Danville, Indiana at the Hendrix County 4H Fairgrounds, July 6-9, 2017. Danville is approximately 20-miles west of Indianapolis. This powwow occurs every 3-years and is not associated with the National Powwows that were held in Washington DC.

There will be 4-sessions of intertribal dancing led by Scizzor Tail (Southern) and Tha Tribe (Northern)drums. Gourd dancing will take place on the first and last days. "Reserved" camping is allowed and the host hotels are the Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites. A tipi encampment, tipi contest, arts and crafts contest also will occur during the event.

If you are looking for dance supplies, the vendors that are there are among the best available. Also there are numerous seminars to attend to learn how to assemble different dance articles (ie. roaches, silverwork, feathers, ribbonwork, women's dance clothes, beadwork and moccasins), which is one activity I am really looking forward to taking advantage of! On Friday a 5K fun run will take place, which is one activity I am not going to take advantage of!

I have heard there might even be some handgaming and a 49 possibly happening! LOL I will have to check it out to make sure!

For more information visit National Powwow XVII |. Hope to see you there!
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

I didn't feel like those threads applied to me because I have no intention to attempt to dance at a powwow because I am non-native and...
