  • Sacagawea school report

A girl in 5th grade who is doing a report on Sacagawea and knows nothing about ndns came to me for help. However, I know nothing about the Shoshones. She needs both clothing and culture ideas for a school presentation. What should I tell her?

I would help her find someone who does know. IMO, it is wrong to teach someone something you yourself have no clue about. That is like the blind leading the blind.

It is taught that every adult is responsible for every child. I think we have forgotten to pass this along very well to our own children.
If we want children, and I am speaking of all children, to have the best education, we need to start at home. So what if we can't, or just don't want to, attend college, does not mean that we cannot learn.

If there is no one in your community, then I would reccomend the web as a last resort.
Even if the live person is not well versed, at least she will have strong information to use in her research for her article/paper.

      Painted22,

      Check out this site.

This Shoshoni lady is a descendent of Sacagawea and her interview answers a lot of questions from an American Indian point of view.
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

Thanks Whome. She also needs outfit ideas. It will not be as accurate as powwow regalia, I know, but I would like to help her as much as possible. There are no Shoshoni people in my area.
