I guess that depends on what kind of drum you're making. I guess I was just thinking "hand drum" when I posted that.

I have built both hand and pow-wow drum so wood and rawhide is what was used and strips of hide was used to lace them up. We also did some carving on the pow-wow drum and made an awesome looking drum--but we don't sound good anyways LOL.

We added some things into it when finished the pow-wow drum!
he wood was cedar for the pw drum.

Well, I will say that I was pretty surprised at the lack of response as far as the handling of the animal that gives its life in order for that drum to be made..

Maybe its something that is taken for granted...
