I saw one gal who looked like to me was wearing a pitch fork with plumes coming out of it. And was not real fond of the look. I was sure she was going for the mines longer and poof'ier than your is . Thye stuck out from the sides of her head ans add'd a few feet to her lol And no iim not jealouse I have a very nice set of plumes. lol.

To the best of my knowledge, eagle plumes weren't a traditional part of my tribe's ladies outfits... I think everyone would agree that the big powwows have made eagle plumes really popular, they keep getting larger and larger. There must be some giant eagles out there LOL.

Lol, I saw one girl wit a total of four of those super tall plumes all in a row. It looked like if a big gust of wind came by, she'd fly away. hahaha

One of my friends told me that in her tribe when you get married or sumptin your trade in your fluffy plumes for feathers. Don't take my word on that tho, I'm bad at listenin.... oooh sumptin shiny, wait what was I saying? lol

I considered not wearing plumes for the longest time cos its mostly a plains thing and traditionally it wasn't a jingle thing.... but I sold out for bigger badder plumage! I'm still trying to breed the so called super eagle hahaha... my plumes are only about 6 inches. My other friend who's prairie band potawattomi says that she had some sort of pluming ceremony we she started dancing.

Off the subject and I dunno if there are any threads on it, but does anyone know the origins of threadwork? A non-indian asked me why I thread wrapped my featherwork... why not do sumptin easier. My response, trying to sound all wise like Thomas Builds-the-fire, was "Making regalia isn't supposed to be easy ever... that way we have greater respect for the dance and dancers... *mumbles* but actually, I dunno." lol

Plumes are the white poofy feathers "my favotite" and the others are well more feahter like. If you go to the gallery theres pics of ladies wearing plumes and hteres some nice pics of hand crafted plumes for a closer look. Walela has a pic on there that she posted of a real set of eagle plumes and they look awesome.

Im not Erica but are you meaning the difference of how the plumes verses other feathers look?

Yea Plumes I guess that is what I mean, is there a difference or is it just the way they are worn. I know they should be earned or given to someone

It is a southern plains thing and part of history from Superndngyrls tribe.

I've heard a chief's female descendant wore them. The way she wore them signified marriage or single.

But on the other side. Women didn't wear or hold eagle feathers unless she was a warrior.

I was taught that the war leader wore the tallest eagle plume and that until after the World War I, most women didn't wear plumes at all.

Anybody else hear this?
