You got an ay from me on your idea....

Now a question from me to you GOLD_TD or any other CA Native reading this...if you were to attend an out-of-state pw, would you be willing to represent the CA way? Would you dance grand entry and intertribal with everyone else....;)?

Gold_tooth_dancer, are you talking about pow wows in Cali only having these two types of head staff or are you talking about pow wows all over? I think it would be nice if a pow wow in a specific area recognized the tribes/bands that were from that area. I hope I am asking this clearly. I like your idea in general.

Yo thats exactly what I mean. I'm not asking for calis to be head at powwows in other states just the ones here in cali. I mean I been to all them up and down this state and if those areas invited the tribes of the area to co head staff I think thatd be right and honoring of them. Theres so many tribes and in each tribe your right different bands but they are similur and have the same type of things in common. But I was thinking more on the lines of say at Lemoore have the Tachi have a head man and woman cali style but still have the pow wow head staff like traditional or grass or fancy dancer you know. Dude I mean at most these pow wow s all around here and in suth cali the mexicans dance in the grandentry and theres none cali. Well a few but its so fuchin cool when I see even 1 cali down for the dancing and just dancing. I need to lose alot of weight then I'll dance again and I'll make peepz wet there pants from seeing me dance so down. har har :p

Yo runnerz I would be fuchin down for dancing at out of state ones. You figure the plains guys came to cali and danced there ways and it was new so we have a right to dance when and where we want to but I'd be sure to go to the committee or sign up boothtable and tell them I'm a cali dancer and introduce me as that when I enter. Like they do for the mexican aztex dancers when they come in. Were all native to this US land whether we live on the east or this west coast were all fighting for survival.

GOLD_TD, no need for cursing..., I'm glad you would, because I would too. I admire your tenacity and applaud your efforts at keeping YOUR CA traditions alive for yourself and your family. As I am learning more and more of my own tribe's traditions and especially our songs, I'm engulfed with pride and happiness and have a desire to share too. My friends who are CA Indian are too, but just as you mentioned, we need to find our place, or create one in some instances, in the rest of Indian Country. But for now, let's just take it slowly and emulate the CA leaders and traditions we have, know and will continue to learn....:).

BTW.....;), in regards to the Aztec Dancers, I think they have the same agenda in mind. Merely to share a little of their dances and songs.... :huddle:. We shouldn't roll-our-eyes at them, for perhaps others do the like to the CA Indian dances/songs....;)

If you were searching for Head Staff for your powwow, what would you look for in a Head Man and/or Head Lady?

What is expected of Head Dancers
              by WhoMe
I have been to powwows where there are head dancers who aren't friendly, look mean or bored, publically gripe, show up late, don't get out to dance every dance and didn't show up at all for an entire session.

What are some expectations of good head man and head woman dancers?

Would you rather dance or be on head staff at a powwow??
              by ndnMSW
Just wanted to see how people feel about this. Would you rather dance at a powwow, or be a part of the arena staff? (such as head judge, AD, MC, head dancer, etc.)
              And why?

              I'll post my preference later.

Pow Wow Question - Entry Fees
              by Velvet Mustang
              Hello Everyone!

I have danced at pow wows for several years and there has never been an entry fee. This past weekend while at a pow wow, I received a flyer for another pow wow (different location) that is charging a $400 entry fee for each of the dance catagories. I have not see this...
