  • how to braid in a roach

I need help, how do you braid hair for the purpose of tying in a roach? I know how to put the spreader on and put the pin through. That is the part I understand I just need to know how to braid hair. Will it mean me having to tell somone or will I be able to do it on my own hair? I am young and new to this and drawings would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the input but I have no idea what you are talking about when you say "I do not like your ***..."

you need to be clear in your request. Do you want a braid (scalplock) on top to hold your roach on? Just go back one finger length or to your crown, depends on your tribe or style of dance, grab some hair about as big as a quarter and braid it. put the braid through your spreader and pin it. a lot depends on how long your hair is. Surely you know family or someone at a dance who can help you. As far as amo, who ever that is,it is easy to be rude hiding behind a keyboard.

I would have to say that my hair is about 2 1/2 inches in length and I have just acuired a new roach that I would have to use a scalp lock to hold it into place I was just unsure of how to make the scalplock itself. I know how to put the lock through the roach and spreader and put the pin through and add drops. (sounds odd I know)but I was told a very strange way to make the scalp lock by using sinew and tying a bunch of knots (needless to say I realy didnt understand. I just want to know an easy way of making a scalplock.

Your hair is mighty short for a lock.. not shure I can help you. usually it just a plain old braid. try shoe strings like all the short hairs (ayyy) As far as being a scout....Get used to folks hating you for what you are, skin, eyes and hair color. We had too. It is not right... just how it is. my advice; for what little it is worth, Listen, learn, keep still, be polite, follow all those scout laws or whatever, Be HUMBLE. ask yourself why this is important to you.
              expect it to be difficult.

I do have cherokee lineage I know that for sure and i think that i can make my hair braid if not I will come up with an alternative. The roach is only 4 inches in length so I think that it would be inpractical to tie it onto my head. i got mine on ebay so you can see exactally what I am dealing with

I see what you mean... wear it back on your crown. not on top. It is small like my turkey beard roaches but I have never seen a porky this little. Good luck

                      Hi Again,

I am making a hair roach from a kit that I got from Crazy Crow. The instructions which came with the kit are very vague in a couple of places. The procedure for pinning and sewing the hair cord to the base is my problem. I asked Crazy Crow to clairify and all I got from them...

                      Yarn Roach base Question
                      by DWhtfeather
I've started my first Roach and have a question on braiding the Base.
Noc bay, Video said to use 12 strands 4 in each row.
In a post from powwowbum49 I think he said 6 strand,
2 in each row then braid.
I would like to get some feed back on how many strand to use on a base....

Hi. We have tied some horsehair (kinda like a little roach) and now we need to attach it to a rosette. This will go on a headband. Any suggestions??? Thanks for your help.
