  • How many of you go to non contest powwows?

I just wanted to get a feel for how many would attend one since all I see are contest powwows nowadays.

Yes! It's a nice change of pace. The big plus is there's no crybabies at tradish pow-wows!

I do. People aren't so uptight as they are at a competition powwow. They don't feel as threatened.

"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and nothing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

I like non contest pow-wows, especially during the off season, they are fun to just go and chill at.
It is so sad that a family can torn apart by something as simple as a wild pack of dogs.

two nites ago, it said there's still time to submit creative writing, powwow related stories, so I wrote what I wanted to submit. Now I can't find the instructions to submit. And there's a specific list of articles topics, which was not there the other nite, so I hope my story is fitting under the topic...

How many traditional Powwows do you attend? Since Competition powwows have come around it seems kids today have lost value in traditional powwows. People go for the big money!! How many people actually dance or sing because they love it rather than just for the money? I think some people are not as...

when you go to a powwows you have to fallow the Navy Seal Code, and if you donot your toast.

Hi! I have a couple of questions about these types of powwows. When did they start popping up? Where did they come from? and How come? I've been dancing all my life and I've went to maybe 2 or 3 of them when I was younger. I'm kind of wondering why people get so caught up about them? I've been reading...
