  • MTSU Powwow was Better than EVER!! Who agrees!

This powwow just gets better and better. I couldn't even count how many drums were there. I bet there was close to 300 dancers! Scott Crisp did a great job M.C.ing and he kept the drums going! The Arena directors were on the ball!! They sure kept us in line!! Great food, Great Dancers, GREAT DRUMS! I hope everyone else had as much fun as we did!!

    MTSU Pow wow

    Saturday was OK.
There were 14 drums. 5 good ones.
Sunday was a drag. Don't they get it that a traditional pow wow is not contest. The contests on Sunday took way too long and took away whatever good feelings I had about the pow wow.
I will say that they had a great feed!

Wow! Incredible to hear Midnight Express! It was good to hear John John sing again, too. I saw some people I haven't seen in 10 years.

But if it hadn't been for the 5 really great fantastic drums, I would have been sorry I went.

i felt that the women's jingle contest was a setup. the one who won the contest had stopped and switched to a different step.

            I was at this pow-wow...

All I have to say is that they run their pow-wow's really different down there. The arena was made of hay bales and sawdust.
They also had some strange sort of "blanket dance" on Sunday. Most of the dancers were not of the calibre me and my family are use to seeing. We did have a good time though. Had some good laughs and good eats during supper breaks. I don't think we'll be headed back down that way for a looooong time!
WE CAME, WE SEEN , WE GOT PAID, AND GOT THE HECK OUT OF THERE!!!

Ill have to agree with orig style, going to that powwow was like stepping in a whole nother' twilight zone or sumthin. Looked like a mountain man and hillbillee square dance than a powwow. This was my first and last time going. Then the people running the powwow were on some kind of mountain man high horse too, trying to be all big n bad. When we got there, I was trying to find a place for my drum to set up, since we were one of the guest drums. I walked into the arena where the MC was to find out, then this guy who was called the "drum master" (this was a first) starts yellin at me for being in the arena, sayin its sacred and im not aloud in it. Im sorry but those people need to go to a real powwow and take some notes.

It was allright. It shouldn't of been a contest, but I still danced in my category. Every powwow you go to is different in some way or another. What really matters is why you're there in the first place. Is it to put on a show or because it's what you feel in your heart? I always try to learn something, good or bad. As long as you know the true meaning of it all. That actually gives me a little something to think about.

Well, it had been two years since I had seen most of my friends, and had the opportunity to photograph some of Saturdays events. I wish I could've stayed longer :(

I was at the first MTSU powwow, and I give Georgia Dennis & Scott Crisp *mad* respect for turning it into what it is. Sure, every powwow is going to have its bad points, but there were good times, good friends, and good food - it was enough for me.

I didn't think the powwow was all that good. all of the real native vendors prolly shoulda been put up front, the way they set up the arena sucked, and who the hell was supposed to be watching the arena??? I saw more ridiculous azz pocahontas looking getup out there than actual outfits. Most of those people looked like a joke, and this one whitewoman was out there wearing some ratty-azz black leather get up with fur and some minnetonka moccasins. It was just shameful. I was so embarassed I just made the rounds to say hello to all the friends and family, and then got the hell out of there. I'm sho' glad I decided not to go dance.
