yea bull check the regular powwow talk page. We got first place. yall should have been there, it wus fun. and forgive me if anyone reading this is more qualified then me to speak about this, but when an eagle feather touches the ground, we feel as if a veteran as passed on to the spirit world, and not so much as a veteran but even a brother. its kind of hard to explain on a computer. but it is a very serious "event"bucwild2012

Thank you
Yeah, I knew it had to be something serious because of how it was handled.
Another question..I asked at the ticket counter if it was ok to take pictures of the dancing and they said yes. But when reading more about this I read that one should asked permission prior to taking a picture.??.which I felt like I did. I just want to apologize to anyone I could have offended by taking pictures while they were dancing.
I did not use my camera during the gathering of the eagle feather for some reason I knew not to...then he announced that as well.
I have to say how totally cool being there was for me. During the grand entrance I could feel the spirituality and it brought tears to my eyes. A beautiful experience for me!!!
I have tons of questions to ask but for now I will just leave you with what I have posted.

You were right not to take pictures, because the way I was brought up, if you take a picture of that feather being prayed for and picked up, then you will trap that spirit in that camera forever. Feel free to ask any questions you like, I'm definetly not an expert and I know a few things, so I might be able to answer the basics, and if I don't I can point you in the direction of someone that does.

Where do I begin?
How do ya'll feel about being bombarded with tourists?
I noticed one of the dancers like in a full head dress covering the face and all. But I didn't notice him during the time when all the dancers were on ...did he enter the dance because of the feather falling? Or did I just miss him earlier? His pants were red and his head dress had what looked to be like a turkey head on the front ..in fact the whole dress on top reminded me of a turkey.
How many Native Americans actually use their Native Language on a regular basis?
I will think of more to ask..

Me personally, I don't really care about the tourists, as long as they don't try to touch me or anything. They are just trying to learn, like the rest of us. I didn't see the dancer you were referring to, so I can't speak on him. (at least I hope it was a guy lol jokes.) About the language, it really depends on the person, some people or more determined then others to learn about their culture.

Do you guys interact with Alaskan Powwows?
If so, how do you enjoy it?
If not, why not?
As a matter of fact, me myself has never been to Alaska, but one of my singers just got back from there. He said he had fun, but they need some southern drums. It's not that we don't interact with the tribes up there, it's just that we haven't made it up there, yet. I live in Ga, so that's a ways for me. BUT should the oppurtunity arise, I would be glad to make a trip up there.bucwild2012

by MeowWondering if anyone here from the Cherokee tribe is a part of the outdoor drama "Unto these Hills" in Cherokee, NC. I just moved to North Carolina a few months ago and I would really like to come see it when it opens this summer. Also, has anyone seen it?

by SkyEagleFor anyone that has made the trip to Cherokee NC and went to the outdoor show Unto These Hills, I just wanted to update the drama.
The whole play has been re-wrote. The cast is all Cherokee and the Regaila is true to the times.
Unlike the drama of the past this is worth...-

Okay so thus far chapter 3 is one of my strongest, though it is an action chapter, and I am trying to avoid too many of those because I don't want to portray the Anowarkowans as violent people, but more, it is hard to say, they are enlightenment era almost technologically, but different then Europeans,...
