sounds like Hinckley a while ago, in teen jingle ???? Bushee and Delonda Pushetanequa was in a tie, and neither of them placed.

Now that I know how that powwow is, I wont plan on going there.

Just as good in some areas, ------maybe.......way better is a laughable overstatement. If they were so good they would have won. They're up and coming, some day they'll make a BIG name for themselves. The winners have paid their dues and deserved to win. Speed is not the only criteria on which the dancers are judged nor is it a measure of who expends the most energy. The winners had more style and more moves----originality, that particular weekend. Maybe next time it will be different. I watched the video footage and the winners appeared to be accurate, at least in the mens fancy category, some of the others were kinda messed up.

              Whoa...

Sounds to me like the whole set up was a big ol mess. On da message boards AND by word o' mouth. But it sounds like there was some badazz jams there!

Elmo has an awesome arbor......except for that middle part(gets in the way), oustanding singing contest, beautiful backdrop and nice people. I'm planning on go'n back and would encourage those who haven't been.....to attend next year. About the Men's Fancy results......I think Blackfeet Dancer has a point....these up coming fancy dancers JJ, Clint and Stan Jr. looked reall good, I was surprsied none of them got in. I also agree with MAD SKILLZ....on that particular weekend the older guys put on a good show and the results seemed fairly accurate......in the that category.

I think it is pretty pissy that they are just pickin tha winners from the flathead rez it shouldnt matter were tha powwow takes place.

maybe next time you should be a ****ing judge then!! if you dont like how the powwows in this reservation is ran then don't go or don't complain. It takes a lot of hard work and shizz to put on a powwow and obviously the ones that ***** and moan are the ones who know nothing about running one and have never judged or nothin... or simply ***** coz they have nothing better to do in their lives than to put others down.

                            The TICKLE ME ELMO Powwow

Friend of mine went there and ended up packing up and leaving the same night. His two boys were practicing their dance outside the circle and I guess making A LITTLE dust. So some dude from the committee comes up and yells at them, then brings over his leafblower and uses it to kick up dust and spray it all over them and their outfits. He also blew his machine straight into their faces and made them cry - they are actually pretty tough kids that I've never seen cry from anything. My friend felt like plastering him on the ground and I know I would have. Fortunately, others from the committee later apologized for the man's behavior and commented that he was a pain in the butt to work with, anyway. My friend still left though, he thought it was the best thing for his family.

It IS a lot of work to put on a powwow and to see SO MANY people complaining about it later does feel like petty thanklessness and I understand why one might want to trivialize all their comments and use words that the system has to go " ***** " over a lot, too. But what it sounds like from what I read here, is confusion over points tabulation caused the wrong dancer to be announced as winner and you really have to understand how that makes everyone look at your powwow. Even the smallest mistakes can ruin in some people's eyes what might really be a big, beautiful production. People don't pay attention to the Lamborghini nameplate when there is a nice bird splat across the windshield to attract their attention. This is what the contest powwow movement is all about, all too often. We should be quite used to seeing powwow committee members' kids and brothers and sisters winning all the money, regardless of who danced best. All over the place. This whole system is sometimes just another extension of the NDN welfare state. When underhanded "mistakes" are made, that's what allows the anti-sovereignty movement to say "Aha!" and move to assimilate us into mainstream America and abolish the reservations.

                            Better luck NEXT YEAR.

That's a rude thing to do to those boys.... and a serious safety issue. I don't blame your friend for leaving early. Dust grains can cause serious damage to the cornea.
