Siyo, just got back from Arizona after attending the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community's Veterans Recognition Powwow. They put on a first class event. Yellowhammer was the drum and the medicine from their songs and drumming was very strong. There was a lot of Gourd Dancing and visitors from many nations. Gordon Roy and Sharon Harrison from the Ponca Nation were Head Man and Woman; Gordon is a highly respected warrior and a funny rascal to boot. The Bushmasters American Legion Post 114 were one of the sponsoring organizations in conjunction with the Salt River tribe and casino. Gordon gave us a staff with a hula girl doll on it to commemorate their trip here to Hawaii; he says they all roll their hips now when they gourd dance!:) Elder veterans from WW2 and Korea were recognized and given gifts. This event was filled with good medicine and all involved are commended for carrying on the traditions in a good way. Planning for next year already!
