I was there, here is my CDA casino pow-wow report:

    I came, I saw, I left.

I got there about a half hour before dinner break, and headed out.
It is so sad that a family can torn apart by something as simple as a wild pack of dogs.

I went to this powwow two years ago and it was alright then. I missed this year. Invited drums only. I just tell the boys on our youth drum they just need work hard to earn their place as singers as not everyone has the patience to put up with young learners "just trying". Today's kids want everything handed on a plate. Hard to get them to commit, even harder to get them to improve, everything should be good enough. My hope is that by the time they're teens, they'll sing well enough to be invited to the invitation-only powwows, even the little local yokel ones like CDA Casino and the Tribal School Powwow in Toppenish. Oh and I guess being related to the right people and having the right friends helps too. Funny, though, we actually have a Nomee in our group, too... LOL

White Hawk is a southern style drum from the Colville Rez. They are one of two groups that re-formed after the Golden Eagle drum retired ... White Hawk led by Faran Sohappy and Golden Eagle Juniors led by Steven Iukes. They have a good sense of humor and good hearts. Dunno what song was in question or how strange the "beat" was, you'd have to ask them about it.

          Cd'A Casino Pow Wow

I was there for about a 1/2 an hour. I went outta my way to check out that guy's dvd's, then just my luck, he didn't set up his stand? But, it was alright I guess? We had committed to attend another something at the rez. I had plans and reserved a room and everything, but not like I really missed anything? Everyone posts stuff anyway.

Sorry if my answer too remedial. LOL

I'm curious, what kind of dance was it too? Intertribal? Or a contest category? Now I'm just curious....

So what is your funniest going to or coming home from a pow wow story.

Here's a good one. I was going to a pow wow in Hopkinsville, KY with my brother, we loaded ourselves and our stuff into my little Chevy Cavalier and took off. Along the way we passed a place called Big Bone Lick State...

              Going Broke For Powwow
              by Lakota Wiyan
Recently, my family and I attended a powwow here in Rapid City, and just about went BROKE! Even the admission alone put us back over $100.00 for the weekend. Even my four year old, who slept most of the evening sessions, had to pay $9.75 for the weekend.

              The concession stand in the...

              Hey,

This thread is directed to all people on pow-wow committees around the great lakes, and to anyone who is interested as well. How come next to nobody reconizes singing around here as being 2 different styles? Contemp and straight. And for those who run the contests or those who...

              by sltate
Remember when Schemitzun was the "be all and end all" of pow wows? When everyone who was anyone and every drum group just had to be present at this celebration? When you saved your cash to buy your ticket, pay for your room at Two Trees, then the Towers, then the Cedars and had to wait for...
