SAD TO SAY WE WENT TO THE TOWANDA, KS. POWWOW THIS WEEKEND AND WE HAD TO KEEP TELLING THE YELLOWHAIRS TO STAY OFF THE DANCERS BENCHES. THEY KEPT SITTING DOWN WITH THEIR " REAL NDN TACOS" AND CHEWING THEIR CUDS. THEN, A DRUNK KEPT HOOTIN AND HOLLERIN. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE!! HE WENT TO HIS CAR AND CAME BACK WITH A BUDLIGHT AND STOOD BEHIND THE INVITED DRUM. We decided that this wasnt our town powwow and if the A.D. didnt have a problem with it, then... We had fun anyway because it was a small powwow and had a goot northern drum and some real good contest dancers from around the region stopped in to strut around. All in all , even with the drunk, it was a fun one

hecky naw! we booked it outta there fast as ever!

when i first got there, it seemed kinda weird, but we have redezvousers in wisconsin so i was kinda used to excessive amounts of whites at small powwows. so i got changed and by the time i came out i was like: TWILIGHT ZONE! weirdos with no pants, leave at the earliest opportunity! it was crazy.

im sorry for no pics, but you can probably visualize the ridiculousness. did i mention the competition was for ribbons? i know the money doesn't really matter, but it further demonstrates how frustrating the whole experience was. ugh...east coast powwows can be hit or miss i guess. the women wore pseudo-iroquois cloth outfits but they tried to dance like southern buckskin...it was so crazy you guys...

it was a southern-style powwow...in new york? with a "gourd dance" and all. weird stuff man

The scariest part was the dudes with just aprons on, just aprons, nothing else above or below, if you know what I mean. Maybe that's a new category "men's apron style," it seems to be spreading.
