it's amazing what you see on the east coast.... since im 400 miles away from HOME and been hitting the trail around here.(md, va, nc, pa, nj).. i do see alot of similarities of our style... some one asked me a few weeks ago "when you see some one dressed like iroquois, dont you just want to go up and ask where they are from?" (call them out)(the woman was hon yo oh all the way) and i replied "no" cause i can TELL who is and who is trying... <to put the plainly>...y waste my time? i have sons to keep an eye on! lol all though in this area i know that we did have a lot of influence... there were more then the 5 nations... but i dont take it to personaly when i see "stuff" like that... and it's not my place to correct them (unless i am totally offended) because when people dabble in things that they know nothing of, it comes back on them... and most people are set in their ways... (i think that i've seen the same person.. hongeet looking?)
but this happens all the time in pow wows... you see some one dressed another Nation's regalia and know that they are not from there...
I believe this 100%.Last edited by Harland Jones; 03-04-2015, 03:07 PM. Reason: A BIG THANK YOU 3NDNBEAR for posting.Give credit where credit is due !!!

Significance of antlers
Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me....I am not Native American, I'm from Australia and a few years back when I was in the middle of a very profound spiritual experience I had a vision of Native American man who was staring straight into my eyes, and he was wearing an animal cloak and a headdress of antlers. It was clear that he was in another realm. (I felt that this was one of my past reincarnations more than a spirit that I am connected to) .
I am wondering if antlers are specific to certain tribes?
And if it's okay to talk about could someone give me insight into what they signify?
Many blessings,
Natasha

His first name is Dean... he's Delaware/Lenape from what I recall, tho I don't think he is from the Oklahoma Lenape... there is a group in Jersey or Maryland or around there that claim Delaware. He's one of the better Eastern War/Straight dancers. I asked a friend about the horns one time too, he wasn't sure why Dean had them on his Gustoweh.

and me too
But seriously, I have seen eastern individuals mimicking Iroquois style dresses mixed with shawls, belts and other 'goofy' accessories. Sometimes I can't help myself from glaring...

You know, I'd bet anything that he saw a chief wearing them, thought that it looked cool and put them on his gustoweh... cause you also know our chiefs would'tn be out competition dancing in their horns. He's more than likely non-iroquois.

Headress Question for Non-Iroquois?
Alright...It has been bothering me for quite awhile since I seen this, so I have to put it out there. Are there any Native Peoples besides Iroquois that wear the style of headress that our men do, but include deer antlers? I ask this because I was at Schemitzun a few years ago and saw this Eastern War-dancer wearing a headress with deer antlers on them. I do not know if this man was Iroquois, but I figured he wasn't because we USUALLY know not to combine deer antlers with a headress unless you are a Chief. I don't know what the traditional look is for other Native People when it comes to combining headress' with deer antlers, but I am hoping that he isn't Iroquois and doing this....

by WakopatakiI have been talking and trying to teach some people and am having a hard time. Several of them will never accept ANYTHING I have to say and some are listening. The ones giving me a hard time defend the killing of Indians from the time of Columbus, and deny millions were killed from that time on. They...

So, I am a Native teen originally from Utah and am involved with a lot of programs to help other troubled and/or non-troubled native teens/students. I've been part of this team called The Standing Tall Team. It involves 10 students from the same area that we are trying to help. The team was organized...
