i need some skins!

Hi , just wondering if anyone could offer a little advice on where to get some nice skins. My mom wants to make herself a new dress but the woman we used to get our skins from has passed on. Any help is appreciated!

depending on what part of okie yer in, Sharp's in Ponca gets in some nice hides, braintanned, commercial, etc.. Myself personally I went through Crazy Crow and got the German tanned white hides, theyre really big, up to 16 sq. ft. the needle goes easily for them, and they run about $80 a hide! Just dont suggest using it for the fringes since when cut into real thin strips, it tends to break, use commercial tanned for that. ;) If top quality is what your wanting then do the braintanned. Runs around $150 a hide.

wanting a buckskin dress

Would anyone happen to know how much a buckskin dress would run....i mean i am wanting to get a dress done but i dont know who to ask.....anyone with any advice?

Thanks fncyshwldncr4life! She wants some good thick skins. We don't live too far from Ponca so we might go there and check them out. Would love to have braintanned. Have you seen the hides at Sharps? Are they good?

native_sweetie4u.... There are lots of good buckskin dress makers out there. Ardina Moore in Miami, OK makes some pretty good ones. Her store is called Buffalo Sun. I think she may be getting out of the business though. But she could probably give you some names of other dress makers. If I were you I'd shop around. Some people really overcharge and stick it to you. You can often find someone who isn't big time in the business who makes top quality and it won't cost you your house to buy a dress from them.:Chatter Good luck! I've seen the dresses run around $400 and up, even on Ebay .... especially the fancier they are, the more they cost .....

Thanks fncyshwldncr, I'll check up on that! thanks for all the info! Mom will want to check the skins out herself in person, that's why we don't want to just order them. She's very picky and knows what she wants. Ya know how moms are!
