I dance in the southern traditional category, and i wear a buckskin, and i put some apache influence into it.

But for the sunrise ceremonies, around here, we get our buckskins on the friday evening before the ceremony begins. Its called the dressing, thats when they get their feathers, and other necessities.

          Apache ways

I would think it would have to do with the branch of Apache you are.

I may be wrong there. I am Chiricahua, I have always let me feet do what the heart says to. I do traditional shawl. I do wear some "war paint" Around my eyes. I have not done a buckskin dress as of yet I do have idea in mind but got to get the material to do one. I use cotton mostly wild bold design on it. To reflect my personality. I was taught by my grandmother who past on years ago. Once we are 13 and have had the sunrise dance that we must not fancy shawl dance with the exception of the eagle dance, owl dance, sunrise dance for our own childern or relatives.

How ever I was also raised by my non native mother who was German Jew. so I am a mutt my father was full Apache.

Well hope you find the answer. I say let your feet do what the heart wants. I was called on to do traditional by the elder in charge of the last pow wow. So also get with elders and listen to their direction and pay close attention to the ring director.

Yeah im orignally from Bylas, and thats 20 minutes from san carlos, but right now im living in town and going to school. san carlos has alot of sunrise ceremonies, and they will be starting up again soon when it gets a litlle warmer. But we do have pow-wows, actually the casino hosts a pow-wow everyear in march. But i hope that answers some of your questions. And the other ceremonies are held mostly in private for families who might need healings or something of the nature

I need to be home to get some healing. And find a home I can truly find that understands me and where I would fit.

Ok now you are talking my old stomping grounds..

We got to meet .. I am tryng to run down all the paper work I need and I am gonna work on getting the material to do a buck skin.. I am gonna put horse hair in the design. And differenct things to say .. Me.. lol

My son did a sundance. ANd trying to talk my daughter into
her sunrise dance. She said she would do it minus the feedings and the pollen dusting. *shakes head* Oh well that is her father that is raising her for now speaking. He forbids her to attend pow wows or native events. I never denied her one event with her nationality backgrounds. Between the highland festivables and Nortic events and the Pow wows I would take her to she was busy.

Once my new buckskin is done I will have to put up a photo.

Pollen dusting? I'm not Apache and I know that there will be others who will want to know about pollen dusting. Should you even be mentioning this? Same thing with sundancing for there are people who say not to talk about sundancing but I'm not in the position to tell you what to say.

Once again you seem to go out of your way to attck me.

I am a Shamen So I do know what is ok to talk about.

Pollen dusting is ok to mention. There are some things not allowed so minus saying them a part of this ceremony. The pollen of put on the lady when she is about to re enter the dance ring.

You are correct you are in no position to tell me what to say.
I do follow old ways and know well what is ok and not ok to speak on. I really wish you would leave me alone you are starting to tick me off highly. You are not even Apache

When I want to do something new, or different, or a change first I pray. Then I speak with my elder. She questions and advises me. Two heads and hearts are better than one, and who better to help with something important than your elder.

It could be dementia setting in, but I seem to recall that in the early 1960s, most of the women at the circle periphery lowered their posture on the accented beat...instead of rising on the accent. In a sense, they were dancing not too unlike the men. Nowadays, the women rise on the accent, similar...

One is this. When I dance, I do not dance in regalia like I see at pow wows, or like any of the dancers I see. I dance mostly in a trance like state or I Totem dance. Is there a "name"...
