Traditional behind the MEN?

Dear "buckskin baby dolls,"

I have been askin' around about the origins of women's powwow dancin'.

Women of both the north and south have said that original women powwow dancers danced outside of the arena where they were sitting and danced a "stationary dance."

Now some northern tribes dance the stationary dance "in" the arena as a tribute to this old custom.

In the south they do not observe this custom anymore nor do any of the present day dancers even know about this.

Any truth to this?

I'm a pure Northern girl and YES you are correct in the originations of our stationary dance. :D It was disrespectful for the women to be out on the floor with the men as they were dancing for victory in battles, counting coup etc. The women danced on the side and honored the men. :)
