What makes a dancer your favorite?

I have read these threads on your favorite dancer, have even posted....but why or what makes a dancer your favorite?
I like to see buckskin dancers that are smooth and their outfits are complete. Not too gaudy, but beautful with style.
I don't like to see southern dancers who hold their arms way out to work their fringes, your dress should move according to your body and timing, not putting your arm way out to work your fringes. Just my opinion on that.
With northern, I like alot of bounce and the whole out fit just dancing in time with the music. I like the traditional colors and the black and whites and plumes all coordinated. I like thier style and their timing.
The golden age ladies have it going on no matter what, they have bounce, style, timing all of the components for great dancing.

I'd have to say how they act on and off the arena like Dine'_gurl said. But I also say, it depends on how well they dance, the fluidness of their steps and what not.

Hmmm..what makes a buckskin dancer my favorite? In regard to women's southern style, its all about feeling the song and expressing it in one's POISE. A woman can be wearing an antique or a brand spanking new cutbead buck with all the bells & whistles, but without the graceful poise it takes to make that dress dance, if you will, (including smooth/graceful footwork, letting the fringes "snap" without forcing it), 4gettaboutit.

But someone who can work it in the arena and then will smile at ya and talk to ya even if she don't know u.

To make a dancer my favorite is when they seem like they are lost in the music and are just smooth on their feet. And also how they carry themselves on and off the powwow arena

SOmone who is nice on and off the arena. Goes out of her way to be a good person and not be phony and a back stabbing person. That who I like and makes a favorite of mine.

I agree with all of you. I am a Northern tradish dancer and I have many many friends that I admire, but I have to say the ones that become my true good friends are the ones that have that beautiful spirit within them and you can see it at all times, on and off the floor. I know many women tradish dancers that are like that and am blessed to have them as my sisters in the circle. :Angel2

Definately! When I've come to meet a dancer that just had baad gear and danced really good, then they act all uppity and dont bother to even say HI... that really kills it. Personality definately has a place in all this.

What makes a dancer my favorite is just basically how they dance and if they act "stink" or not. My faves are basically southern dancers, although I have seen some really good northern traditional dancers. Anyways, I like when a dancer is reaaalllly smooth and I mean not the ones who stick their arms way out like their rowing a damn boat just so they can make their buckskin fringe swing. Also, any southern buckskin dancer who stops and dances in one spot during the honor beats is definitely not going to be on my list.

My favorite dancers stick to their tribe's traditional way of dancing, but they have their own style. I like a dancer who has a complete outfit - either old style or contemporary.

My all-time favorite dancers seem to defy nature. It can be the hottest day at the hottest powwow, but they'll still dance in their 40 lb. buckskin as if they didn't even notice.

what does it for me is the northern traditional ladies that have a good bounce that gets their fringe really snapping. I admire all the work that goes into their beadwork... looks so stunning when it's well coordinated. I also love the older outfits.... I am utterly amazed at the durability of the work, as well as the traditional/tribal designs in those outfits.

as for southern ladies, the well coordinated pieces that go into the buckskin dresses they wear. beautiful. the true champions are the ones that don't look like they're "working it" to get their fringe snapping. totally graceful.
