  • Scarf color?

I'm making my daughter a new blouse for Pow Wow, and I've noticed several of the ladies wear a scarf around their necks, I've read it is part of cloth dancing, but wondered is there a significanse to the color of the scarf? Would it be appropriate to wear her clan color? or favorite color? or is there a reason behind some of the certain colors I've seen? Most of the ones I've seen are in a very contrasting color to the rest of the regalia. Here's a pic of my daughter, the one without a neckscarf.

    Thanks

Not all tribes wear a neck scarf. My daughter wears a scarf and her coordinate with the colors in her ribbonwork. She has several friends, of different tribes, and they do not wear a scarf. Look for the way others in your tribe dress.

all ppl in our tribe wear scarves (who want too), skins, cloth, fancy and jingle, they usually just match the regalia or their personality, and have ribbons hangin from the back!!
      hope that helps:)

We are Cherokee, I've seen them with and without, I just wondered if there was a significance, Thank you!!

Ribbons down the back? Tell me more, or post a picture so I can see? This sounds neat! But I think ultimatly I will not only let her make her decision, at 15 (16 in two monthes) I think it is time she have a "hand" at her own regalia ........ hmmm hope it's not blue cammy ....... nah I'll do like I did when she was little pick out some material, then give her a choice of those ...... yeah that's safer ....:Naughty

        Thank You!

          like the others said,
some use scarves that match their dress
others use scarves that are family colors.

I use mine to match my dress
          Well will wonders never cease.....

:) She picked out a plain medium blue, for the top, and the skirt, with co-ordinating, blue butterfly material, for the bottom ruffle, and the neckscarf! She has a light blue shawl, we may or may not add some butterflies to as well. Not only is our clan blue, but it's also her favorite color, and she loves blue butterflies. (I'm just glad I was able to hide the bolt of blue cammo material close by);)

No, I am related to the Harris's though, and desended,(yeah I know) from John Ross ..... some of the Ross's still live in this area, in the small communtiy I'm in, everyone is related to everyone else, at least once if not twice! I'm still not sure if I'm my own cousin, or not! I'm just glad my husbands people are not from here. I wouldn't have gotten married!

I am working on my dance outfit for next year. I have a red scarf, black scarf, orange scarf and a yellow scarf. Next year I will have 4 outfits in variation of the color symbology of fire.

I was wondering how everyone feels about women who dance in their spouses tribal regalia.

Like I know a Crow woman married to some guy in washington, her dress style is his tribes style. She never danced before, and she just started. She came out in his family colors and his tribal regalia...

Lady Gaga is what Madonna was in the 80's. Shock value and bizarreness are their trademarks. In my opinion, she is an average singer and not very attractive.

A friend of mine asked if I was going to her concert? While I have to admit I do like some of her songs, I'm afraid I wouldn't...

                    Hi!
My husband is a member of the Sault Tribe and I am not. We frequently go to Pow Wows, but he has never had regalia to wear. I would, however, like to make regalia for our daughter. I'm a very good sewer, so I'm not worried about putting it together. My problem is, I am clueless about where...
