  • any northern dancers?

Most of you seem to be southern dancers. Are there any northerners out there? Although we also dance for the same reasons, our outfits seem to really differ.

              Northern Tradish dancer

I'm a Northern dancer. I have cloth and buckskin. I'm in the process of making a wing dress with applique when the hot hot summer days are upon us again......whewwwwwwwwwwww, I can already feel the sweat. I'm making the dress with the same pattern as my beadwork so I don't have to make new beadwork too.

I mainly dance jingle but once in a rare while I dance cloth. I have a Northern ribbonwork outfit. When I finally finish my fully beaded yoke dress, I'll also wear that.

What tribe are the last two that replied to this? and what is this Wing dress? Is it the same as a T-dress?
                  I'm Blackfeet from MT!

I'm Chippewa/Cree, also from Montana. I am married to a Blackfeet from Montana also.

A wing dress is similar to a T dress but the sleeves are more in the shape of a wing.....hence wing dress

I dance Northern, too. Hello ladies... :Wave

For now, my top is made of cloth with some applique work.. and hide fringes. Hopefully, by August/september I'll have my fully beaded top done. :) I'm also working on a matching T-dress for the hot summer sun. Cutting out the pieces is taking long tho. BUT oh well... I can't wait till this summer.
~* Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you're up to *~

For those of you ladies that smoke dance, you obvisoulsy dance in Iroqouis Regalia.. Now my question...Since not many Pow-Wows offer smoke dance as competition, and you want to enter the contest in womens traditional and the categories are split into northern and southern, which one would you dance...

Can someone please explain to me why the Cherokee pow wow had ladys southern cloth and buckskins dancing together for Compatation. I know that I am new to dancing but I dont understand that reasoning. We are to difference styles or Iam i wrong. Is it always that way and I just havent noticed. Seems...

I don't know how many of you noticed but we have undergone a name change here. Our category is no longer called Southern Cloth, but instead we are now called Cloth, and will include both Southern and Northern now.
Since both Northern and Southern dancers will be included here I would for us...

What category would you dance in?
                                by Daizy
Now Iroqois dancers are cloth dancers, and there northern dancers, so they should or would dance with the northern dancers right? But when they do dance with the northern dancers there dancing against mostly all buckskin dancers and look more like they would fit in with southern cloth...So my question...

                                Northern AND Southern Dress...
                                by tsuj510
I had a quick question I wanted to get some advice on.

My knees and ankles are shot-I couldn't dance to save my soul anymore, but I wanted to put together a Man's Traditional outfit.

I happen to have relatives from the North and relatives from the South and I want to respect...
