Your daughters dress is really nice!!! What a cuteee!!

You mentioned you hadn't made her the net necklace......I've been wanting to make one for my new dress. I have an old necklace but its not as long as some of the ones ladies wear now (not sure that "long" is the right word....from the neck to the edge of the necklace...maybe that describes it better). My old one is only 2 1/2 inches.....I've seen them wear they are closer to 5-6 inches.....hope this makes sense!!!. Plus that necklace is getting kind of old and delicate and I'm afraid to wear it.
ANYWAY......do you have some directions on how to make the web necklace? Anybody that could help....I would appreciate it.

I've enjoyed hearing the discussion on the Muscogee women's dress. Not a lot of ladies dress in the Creek dress......so it's great to hear your feedback.
    See you later,
    Nancy Jo

I know exactly what you mean. I'm real careful about mine. Partly because I didn't make it. A lady in Ada, OK made mine for me and she's does really good work too. I want a wider/longer one too. Mine stops right at the ruffle on my yoke. I've seen Choctaw women with collars that drape way below the yoke though.

Thanks for the compliment on Miss Thing too.

I like the wider/longer ones......they look really nice.
I got some tubular beads that are royal blue and have kind of an iradescent sheen to them and I would like to make them up in the collar necklace. Just not real sure how to do it.
The one I have now was given to me by an aunt (that has since passed away). No one else is sure how to make the necklace.

One of these days I'll just have to try and figure it out.....but if anyone has any instructions....I would love to learn.

Where are you in Texas? If you want I could email the collar maker in Ada and exchange info. She usually teaches a class on collar and stomp dress making.

We'll have to plan on meeting at one of the local pow wows once you move here to Texas.
                Check out www.dallaspowwows.com
They list most of the local pow wows here.

Thanks for the pictures and discussions about Creek dress. It IS highly unusual to see someone dancing at a pow wow in this traditional dress. I have a Cherokee dress, but for many years have been considering wearing Creek style. You guys gave me the extra "push" I needed.;)

                        Daughter wants to dance

                        Hello Everyone!
I looking for help! My daughter (who is 4) had decided she wants to dance Fancy shawl. We are Creek/Seminole and I grew up in Ohio. My family is in Oklahoma, so they are trying to help from long distance. Is there any videos that I can watch, so I can teach my daughter. I also would like to know if the regalia would be different since we are Creek/Seminole? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Where does it originate from, does it have any special representation? I always like the Tdress.. it looks comfy LOL! I'm not saying I want to go out and make one to dance in.....

I've shared an image of an Omaha Dentalium Shell Dress. I was wondering what your thoughts were on this since I normally see women from northern plains wear these kinds of dresses.

                          Deerskin Strap Dress
                          by laughingcrow
Has anyone seen a traditional two deerskin strap dress worn at any pow wows? This style of dress was common among the Cree, Ojibwe and Metis people of the Great Lakes in the past but sadly, I have never seen a contemporary version of one worn in the circle. I have heard of people wearing a cloth strap...
