I was just wondering what everone thought about non-southern NDNs dancing southern style tradish?

I mean by me being an Ojibwe woman our style of tradish is usually to stand in one place or sometimes go around the circle, but southern style dancers have a different way/style of dancing tradish. Plus I thought certain tribes had certain or different styles to their dancing and to their outfits. I really like the southern style tradish -n- would like to dance that style but wouldn't want to offend anyone if I were to do it.

I think the best thing to do would be to find a southern women's dancer or two and ask them their opinion, and maybe get them to teach you the dance so that you represent it in the correct way. There are a lot of people dancing southern cloth who are from tribes (even southern tribes, i.e., southeast, southwest) which either do not dance that style, or don't powwow as their tribal tradition. I dance southern cloth, and would not be offended as long as you make the switch in the correct way, and represent our style honorably. There are certain things you need to know about regalia and the way to dance, and if you ever have southern dancers come to your powwows they will be able to tell whether you know what you're doing or not. it is not my place to say you may or may not join the southern dancers.

i think the more the merrier!!:)

but maybe there is some protocol ediquette that i'm nto aware of that may need asnwered somewhere(coudln't tell you where)
but most the girls i see jump from southern to northern to jingle or fancy without a thought or care.

but yeah i know a lot of jinglers who've not gone about it the right way and make their outfits and start dancing,

you may want to ask an older lady dancer in your area, they could help you more.
